API SuperClean Power Filter

I was looking for a small aquarium power filter for a 3 gallon tank to replace the one that came with it because it caused a fairly strong current, only has suction cups to hold it, which never do. Most power filters that have a hook, seem to be for large aquariums and finding one for a small tank is tricky.I tried a air pump style and at first I loved it because it was very quiet and did not need to worry about a hook, but within 2 days, I ran into very bad white slime build up all around the tubing and everything which spread everywhere else. (I assume it was because I did not have good filter media for it as it only came with ceramic balls)I tossed idea out the door and gave this API Superclean 10 a try since it used the same size filters as my existing. I hoped it would be a little better since it had a guard to direct the water and maybe would help slow down the current or divert it a little, and it had an adjustable hook to hang it. I installed it, and plugged it in. Instantly noticed how loud it was.The water comes out with so much force against the guard, that the noise is just unbearable, they are like little water jets. I tried without the guard on it and that caused water to just spray and splash everywhere, so the guard needs to be there if you don't want to drench the surroundings. I do not know if I need to have the output ports submerged or what, but I went back to my original filter which so far has worked the best and is super quiet, just needed a little tweaking so I could hang it.I may try this one again in a smaller spare tank I have with no fish, but much lower in the water and see what it does. The challenge with that is the water is always evaporating, causing the waterline to constantly move, so it is not a great option. I cant go lower than 4 stars at this point as I do not know how it may work long term so only going to knock 1 star off for the noise problem. It may be a great product, I just don't know at this point. If I try again, may change that.

I have an Imagitarium 6.5 hexagon fish tank which is a nice tank except for the fact the filter it came with broke down. I purchased a couple of filters that were not really compatible because of the way the tank is built. I was ready to get rid of the tank when I spotted the API SuperClean power filter. I looked at the price and said to myself, "Why not, you have nothing to lose." It turned out that I made a great decision. This inexpensive filter is really great. It is compatible for my Imagitarium Tank, and it keeps the water extremely clean.I would highly recommend this filter.

I bought this to replace an old one that was so noisy I had to cover the tank up with a towel overnight. I use this for my 1 gallon tank (very small) but could be used for up to 3 gallons, I think. the suction is good and the water flows out without splashing and making noise like the other one. The filter motor is quiet as well. The replacement filters are cheap which counts for a lot. Would recommend.

My favorite HOB filter of all time. The price is amazing for how well it works. The ability to customize the filter media to your needs is very nice, and you can basically set it up like a mini canister or wet/dry. You can customize your mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration however you want.I got one to try it out on my 45 gallon fresh water tank, and it has been running for about 2 months. I have the adjustable flow up all the way, and the flow is quite nice. Since the intake pulls from both the bottom, and the top, the intake isn't too strong for the fish. The outlet is quite strong and agitates the surface quite well. I have one sunset platy that likes to swim against it and let it push her back, she will do it for several minutes, then rest and go again lol.I had always used Penquin Bio-wheel filters for my small community tanks, but the API Superclean works just as well. I just added lava rock for extra biological filtration, as the plastic holder/ceramic rings that come with the filter really don't give much surface area. I simply put the lava rock in a mesh bag. It slides right in front of the filter cartridge (the lava rock you can buy for bar-b-qs works great, just break them up small with a hammer and rinse them).I like that API has quite a few different pre-made cartridges and filter sponges that work for the filter to allow you to fit the filter to your needs, and they are all very inexpensive. The filter is also wide enough for you to also add your own media to it.

This filter works well for small aquariums and filters cartridges are easily available through Amazon, but don't expect the filter motor to last more than a year or so... Additionally, the filters are not always made well - they still work, but some filter cartridges are stamped slightly off to one side and some seem to have more active charcoal than others. I'd suggest you subscribe to the filter replacements and change weekley. Also, get to know how to disassemble the filter and thoroughly cleaning it at least once a month, the flow rate will dramatically decrease over time if you don't - even if you change the filter cartridges often.

The first lasted 10 months. The second might not make it so long.Things I like: It's an all-in-one filter and aeration system. It's really easy to change the filter.Things I don't like: It doesn't seem to last very long. High-pitched squealing means that it's about to die. Also, it stops pumping water through every time you change the water, every time the power fails, and other times just for fun. When it stops, it's hard to get the water flowing through it again.I wouldn't recommend this, but I haven't yet found one that I think will last longer, get oxygen into the water, and still be easy. I purchased this to have it on hand because I have not had much luck with the prior ones for my Betta tanks. Please note that these tanks ONLY accept this pump/filter! Sad to say, I just opened this one for the first time today because a prior one had failed only to find this DID NOT WORK AT ALL! DO NOT buy these filters ....and more importantly if you buy the tanks they fit on....you have totally wasted your money altogether!

I bought this one to replace the old one that suddenly made a lot of noice only after 5 months. I followed the care instructions to a T so I would like to think what I got was a lemon. The new one works as expected and I hope this lasts longer as to get my money's worth at least.The delivery was delayed from already a long wait delivery ETA. I had to follow up with the seller who didn't really follow through to ensure everything is ok. What if it didn't really get delivered?? For those reasons, two stars less. Either I'd find another seller or just switch to a different brand had I known that's how they treat customers.

Después de un tiempo (poco más de 2 años) el aterior dejo de funcionar bien (por momentos paraba y hacía ruido). Hay que considerar que habrá que estarlo cambiarlo cada 2 o 3 años para no arriesgar a los peces, pero vale la pena dado que en verdad mantienen el agua impecable. Igualmente hay que cambiar los respuestos con frecuencia.

pero con el tiempo se hace muy ruidoso , tienes que darle mantenimiento semanal de desarmarlo todo , limpiarlo y ponerlo a funcionar; pon atención en como lo desarmas para que lo armes de vuelta con cuidado .

Do to finances at moment got this for the price & availability,should have known better 🤦‍♀️Recieved this on Monday, hooked it up that evening by Wednesday morning it stopped working. Amazon willing to replace free of charge but I'm not willing to take a chance on same product. To get a refund Amazon is not giving back a full refund they are giving back less. Not so sure I'm willing to purchase anything from Amazon again

Muy buen filtro pero caro, uso 2 de estos para una pecera de 40 lts, los filtros los reemplazo con fibra y carbón y limpia igual, se puede desarmar todo para darle una mayor limpieza.
