I really wanted this to work. But there is one major flaw, the R2 button is always on. That's the Right trigger, the most commonly used button on the game pad, is always firing. Makes it hard to play a game when you're constantly running out of ammo. I've heard that this is. Common problem with these controllers. If not for this flaw, the controller would be near perfect. It pairs easily and the App that comes with it makes it easy to update the controller and let's you know what games support the controller. It also has a diagnostic screen that shows you what is working and what isn't on the controller. You would think this screen would let you calibrate the controller, but that is not the case. There is no lag. The controller works just as fast, if not faster than you touching the screen. Solid construction, it's not an Xbox or PS4 controller. I don't know how it would hold up, if your a thrower. I'm not a controller thrower, so I wouldn't know.I will be returning it tomorrow and exchange it for another one. I will update my review once I have a replacement.Update - Just got the replacement and it works like a charm. I deleted the old controller, since they have the same name and paired the new one on the first try. Very simple and fast pairing. A quick trip to the mad catz app, showed me that all the buttons work as expected with no issues or lag. I push a button or move a stick and I see it as I'm doing it in the app.Now I fired up Dead Trigger 2 and started mowing down zombies as if I was playing on a Xbox or PS4. It's a completely different experience to play with a controller. Again, there is no lag, so moving and firing are as if your using the touchscreen. It's an awesome controller.

Works great, but unreliable unfortunately.
It's a great remote. The phone mount is sturdy and secure. It works perfectly with Minecraft Pocket Edition. But it frequently malfunctions, leaving my character whacking at whatever's in front of him or walking in one direction. The remote becomes unresponsive until you turn it off. I had to avoid going to the Nether when I was using this, for I most assuredly would have died in a lava pit, or from an agro Pigman I accidentally whacked when the controller went on the fritz. When this happened, sometimes it would pair again a few moments later. Sometimes I would have to switch to the Madcatz proprietary app for the controller and turn the controller on to reconnect. Sometimes it won't turn off unless you remove the batteries. But if I got a good 30 minutes of use out of the controller, it usually becomes unresponsive, it won't pair again, and then I have to restart my iPhone. It WILL NOT pair again no matter what trick I would try, short of restarting my iPhone. Sometimes it would only work for a few minutes before requiring a restart of my iPhone. I'm using an iPhone 7+ 256gb with iOS 10.1.Before I returned this, I bought a Steelseries Nimbus remote to see if it was my phone or some software issue. I love it. There's no phone mount, but I've found that to be a completely acceptable compromise for a remote that I can finally go to he Nether with, with a complete sense of security. Other than the lava and mobs, of course. Lol. I was worried there was no consistent, reliable remote out there, and I would have to settle for unreliable operation, but that has been proven untrue, and I'm actually excited about the Nimbus. There may even be other great remotes out there, but I've found mine and I'm done looking. If the Nimbus ever fails me, though, I'll just update this review.

A great physical design marred by a poor engineering choice
It has strengths, and it has weaknesses; unfortunately, for me, the latter might be too substantial. On the positive side...1. The feel is quite similar to the Xbox 360 controller; since that's the epitome of game controllers for me (possibly a tie with the Nintendo Gamecube's wired one), I liked holding it to play games on my iPad. The colors of the letters are switched from the Xbox one (but that is likely to protect against any patent lawsuits).2. A lot of games work with it (the ones on the Featured page of its app are a fraction of the ones that are reported to work), but not all let you choose the command layout--not a MadCatz issue, but you should be aware that the controller isn't meant to override anything the app tells it.On the negative side...3. Battery life. It's very small, most likely because the engineers made a very poor decision: it operates on AAA batteries, not AA ones. Using an alkaline pair, the Battery Level reading via the CTRLi iOS app dropped 12 percent over the span of 80 minutes, only 30-35 of which were spent playing games. The rechargeable batteries I use in all my other products (wifi keyboards, wireless headphones) last 1-2 20-30 minute sessions at most before requiring a new charge session. There's a reason all the console controllers use AA batteries: they contain 2.5-3 as much current capacity.4. There's no OFF button. The controller puts itself to sleep... *30 minutes* after it was last used. It's not as much a factory in the battery life as the AAA problems, but still significant, I would imagine. In their minimalistic replies, customer/technical support said that "this may change in future firmware updates."5. I wouldn't count on firmware updates, as this product has now been on the market for over 6 months, and the firmware is still on version 1.0.6. I've noticed that, sometimes, the calibration values of the buttons and sticks (which you can check in the iOS app) don't read consistently or properly from game session to game session. It doesn't affect things too much, although I've noticed that in games where two actions are mapped to the same button (e.g. a action is performed by pressing A; a separate action is performed by holding A), the game often has difficulty reading which one I'm trying to use.7. The glossy surface seems to absorb oils and whatnot from your fingertips; they can be wiped off easily enough, but it gets smudged much more so than my Wii U controllers. It's certainly not a bad controller; it's just not something that I feel is worth $60 considering that a new Xbox 360 controller can be had for under $40--and I have no worries about that one operating correctly and not requiring a battery swap every other day. If it's designed to be a pseudo-Xbox controller, it should use the same batteries. AAAs just don't give you enough current for something like this.
