## Description

Product Description Coined the “third type of string,” XL Half Rounds are an innovative combination of round wound and flat wound strings. Half Rounds electric guitar strings have a smoother feel than round wound strings, but a fuller tone than strings which are flat wound. Made with a high carbon steel core and stainless steel wrap wire, they’re finished with a precision grinding process to provide a smooth feel and reduced finger noise, with tone that's comparable to round wound strings. This 12-52 Jazz Light set features a wound 3rd/G-string, providing more tension for drop tuning, as well as accommodating a traditional jazz setup. From the Manufacturer EHR350's combine the playability of a traditional 12-52 Jazz Light set with the benefits of an exclusive "Half Round" manufacturing process.D'Addario Half Rounds Electric Guitar Strings are round wound with stainless steel and then precision ground leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi flat." The result is a string with the tone and tension characteristics of round wound strings, with a smoother feel, similar to flat wound strings.D'Addario, the world's largest manufacturer of musical instrument strings, is known as The Players Choice with a reputation for unsurpassed quality and consistency. D'Addario's innovative packaging reduces waste and provides protection from corrosion. All D'Addario strings are manufactured in the U.S.A. using proprietary, digitally controlled, state-of-the-art machinery for unmatched performance, set after set.

Review: Another great and NEEDED string by D’addario. - In their vast line of strings, I know of only one D’addario just got totally wrong (their Gypsy strings are terrible; what were they thinking?). These are not only terrific but needed. First: for me, the perfect compromise for those looking for a string that approximates the feel of a flat wound, more or less, but has a ton of sound. Good, rounded bottom, but they’re stainless steel, which is THE brightest string metal. I can’t imagine playing a round wound stainless string—would not only be unbearably bright (for me) but also would grind up your frets pretty quick. They got this one just right. Note: any flat or semi-flat is going to have greater tension than conventional strings of comparable diameter. Thus an 11-49 set is going feel more like an 11-53. And there’s a huge difference in the total tension of the 11-49 set and the 12-53, so factor that in. Finally: THESE CAN BE USED ON ACOUSTIC GUITARS. (Remind me somewhat of the sound the Beatles got with Pyramid Flats.). Obviously, not for everyone, but I use these on a couple 00/000 guitars, giving them a really unique (kinda bluesy) sound. A bit like Martin Retros but more interesting. A choice to consider for acoustic guitars with a magnetic sound hole pickup.
Review: this is a great string! - My main type of strings in three different gauges, longest lasting, especially surrounded by ocean here in Hawai’i.... I also use them on acoustic , Yes loss of that warmth/ tone but ! Plugged into the house P A , no one seems to notice ... perhaps it is what / how I play them that counts.....this is a great string!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are Half Flats available in multi-packs to save money?**
A: After searching their website and other sources it does not appear that they do at this time. They don't offer a really large selection of multipacks of strings.

**Q: would these be good for a arch top jazz guitar?**
A: Tricky question...and answer! "True" jazz guitarist usually use heavy flat wounds. Of course...it's subjective! Can you use them on an arch top???? Depends on your guitar and playing style. Yes you can but, I would tend to feel it would not give the depth and response you would prefer. Dunno...that just me. I have a George Benson GB-10 original and it plays better with full flat wounds. Hope this helps...Jay

**Q: Can I get separate = wound G string?**
A: No. I used to insist on a wound 3rd string in my string sets. But I haven't seen a set with wound 3rd in my gauges in years.

**Q: Super light 9-42 half wound too light ? How is the tone of the higher strings ?**
A: The top three strings are the same as the ones used in any of their 9-42 sets. so the tone is exactly the same. A 9-42 set is always a little flimsy, so it's a matter of personal preference whether they work for you or not.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love these strings!!!!
*by E***. on April 6, 2011*

I have been playing guitar for 27 years and I've tried many, many strings. By far, my favorite is D'Addario for their value and excellent quality. Other strings I've bought don't last very long, some come with defects. But D'Addarios are the best string you can buy... and they are VERY WELL PRICED! I would compare these strings to Thomastik-Infeld strings, which cost twice as much and are NOT a better quality string! I've used medium gauge strings for my jazz guitar for some time now and these strings are great! They feel really smooth on your fingers yet they still have a bright sound. And by "bright sound", I mean bright for medium (0.12) gauge strings. For those who have used round-wound 0.12 gauge strings, you know they sound a bit heavier than an extra light gauge (0.09), which are extremely bright. That said, these strings sound just as good as round-wound strings and have a bit of that flat-wound feel. Smooth. Very nice. Any other company would charge $20-$25 for a pack. Not D'Addario. Try a set and you won't be sorry. NOTE: The only reason I didn't give these strings a perfect 5 stars was because the 0.11 gauge pack cost $7.99, the 0.13 pack cost $8.22 but the 0.12 pack cost $12.99? I would figure they should cost the same or at least CLOSE! BUUUUUUUT, like I said, they are still a great value!
