GREAT TENT! We just returned from a 7 day ...
GREAT TENT! We just returned from a 7 day White Water Rafting trip on the Deso/Gray Canyon's in Utah and the tent was awesome. As I said about a month ago, I said I would update you once we used our tent on the 7 day White Water Rafting trip that we took recently on the Deso/Gray Canyons on the Green River in Utah and it was great. This tent is so EASY to put up as well as put away which was invaluable when you are floating down a river and have to set up and pack up each day in a new spot. The only suggestion which we gave the manufacturer is that it would have been even better if we could have had the same tent footprint but be able to pack it down rather than have it fold up into a frisbee shape. For this type of a trip, this could have caused an issue if we would have capsized as it would have been a problem but thankfully this was not an issue. It would have also been easier to pack if it was not a round frisbee shape but was a square or rectangle so we could pack more easily in the boat. If the shape was different it would also have been easier for a backpacking trip. However, that said, this tent is AWESOME! It's rated that it can handle light to moderate rains and it did VERY VERY well. Because we knew it was monsoon season we needed to be prepared for anything so, even though the tent already had a waterproofing on it, I went ahead and purchased another can of waterproofing and sprayed the tent really well (especially the seams) prior to the trip and let that dry out. What I used was Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water Repellant, 10.5 Ounce and purchased this item through Amazon as well. This turned out to be a wise decision as on the last night of our trip we were all beat and decided not to trek all of our camping gear up to the woods to pitch our tents but decided it was such a beautiful night after dinner (wind had stopped and clouds all disappeared) that we would just all pitch our tents on the beach fairly close to the boats. Because of earlier winds that day, we actually used our tent stakes for the first time on the trip and also placed rocks over them to keep them in place. This also turned out to be a very wise decision. When we all went to bed at about 9:00 pm, the sky was clear and stars were vibrant and there was no wind. It was beautiful. However, about half past midnight I woke up to the sound of sprinkling on our tent. I immediately jumped up to close our windows so as to not get too wet. By the time I came back into the tent the Heaven's opened up and we had one heck of a monsoon hit. For 2 1/2 hours we endured heavy rains, wind and thunder and lightening. We were very concerned that our tent may collapse but it did not. We knew the inside of the walls were soaked through so we just did not touch them as we stayed inside. When we awoke in the morning, our tent survived, did not collapse and though the tent itself was wet on the inside and we had a couple of small puddles at each of the door openings, nothing inside was wet - a few items were slightly damp if they were near a seam but not soaked. WOW - good tent! We survived and did not float away down the river which was my fear since there had been an obvious flash flood at that camp sometime a few days prior. Below are some photos of our tent from the trip along with a photo of me on the last day of our trip several hours prior to when the monsoon hit us. Great tent overall. Perfect for families who want easy set up and take down. Not as good for backpacking due to the large round disc shape for pacability.

The envy of other campers
We camped with this little tent this last weekend, and jaws dropped when we pulled it out of it's carry bag, threw it down on the ground cloth and crawled inside! We were done setting up before others had opened their bags. Do use a ground tarp, you want to protect any tent from moisture, dirt and sharp stuff, but the bottom (and walls) are quite thin on this one. Regardless, we stayed warm, dry and dust free, and the tent had no wear or damage. I did add a couple of stakes for safety (we use 10 "- 12" nail type) but with a heavy duffle bag inside each end , this puppy laid flat and wasn't going anywhere. These little tents are VERY wind resistant. We were there for one night in very mild weather, so I didn't bother with ANY guy lines or tie downs. The tent has no rain fly so I did bring a tarp with grommets and extra rope and stakes, just in case. Sometimes we camp where it's VERY windy and dusty so I was not happy that the window flaps zip down the sides but not along the bottom, however, we did have a little wind and when zipped down, they actually sealed quite well. For us, camping in HOT places, often with NO shade, the big issue is our tent becoming a bake oven by day. This tent has two doors on ends and windows on both sides, all screened, so when opened up, it's an awesome, shadey, airy enclosure. Did NOT bake - another reason for others to envy our set up! Take note - you have to go outside to unzip window flaps, they are on the outside so you can stake them out at an angle from the window to use as a shade/rain canopy for the open window. Or you can just roll 'em up or let' em flap loose. The doors obviously open from the inside, and are screened so you can open them partially for air without going outside, that's good. As for room: If you had to cram 4 people inside for shelter in a pinch, you could, REAL tight. But we knew we wanted it for two people and gear and it was perfect! Laid two OVERSIZED sleeping bags in the center on self inflating pads and put our big duffel bags in the vestibule ends and had plenty of room beside us for lanterns, water bottles, flashlights, jackets, etc.. Tent has pockets and lantern hooks as well. We have our own door and so no climbing over or leaving access space down the middle. And while probably not the first choice for a super extended stay, really harsh weather, or if you need a lot of gear inside with you, it is perfect for those weekend getaways when you would like to spend your precious down time or adventure time, doing those things, NOT setting up and tearing down your tent. As for tear down - we know how to fold a pop up tent, so we literally, completely had our tent and ground cover folded and stowed in 4 minutes! No kidding. Be gentle with all zippers, carry bag especially. This tent stores/packs flat and takes up no room, bonus. It looks to be pretty well constructed and if treated well, I expect it to last a while. It seemed a bit pricey, honestly, but the time and effort it saves us, every trip, I have to say, WELL WORTH IT! Overall, we love this little tent and are very happy with our purchse! Oh, and it arrived in two days.

Nice tent, but no waterproof even in case of light rain.
Cozy small tent for 2 normal adults and their clothes. But it is typical for all tent manufacturers to measure the tent capacity in the number of some midgets who can be packed inside. Installation and folding back was surprisingly simple. The inside is quite roomy because of the dome design. You will need the additional ropes/guylines to keep the cover of the side windows slightly above the mesh. That way you have privacy, good ventilation, and even good protection against direct rain. They supply only 4 guylines though a picture on amazon shows 8 - be aware. You will also need 4 more pegs. The real problem was in almost no rain protection. We would not expect this tent to keep a heavy rain as was described. However, we were very disappointed that it cannot keep even light rain though it was said and description that it would. For about 4-5 hours of light rain, we got almost 3 qt. of water inside. It damaged our mattress which was not waterproofed (we took it with us for many years with our old tent with no problem). The issue seems to be in the tent design: water accumulates near the bottom and leaks through the stitches. We had a similar problem with our old-old tent. We solved that problem with a waterproofing spray we bought in some tourist stuff store. One would need just to spray the stitches, and the problem was gone (of course, it would not still work for a heavy rain). I hope to find the same thing again. Otherwise, I would prefer to return this product. I'm surprised that this has been mentioned in multiple reviews.. The cost of that spray is just a few bucks.. One more thing. The holes in the mosquito net seem to be too large for small flies, which penetrated through the net quite easily. I don't know if this is typical or was specific to the place we were camping.
