Review: Seems like a superior product. - The presentation of this product doesn't clearly show all that comes with it. The black strip with the brand logo is a section of tape that seems to be fancy electrical tape. Folks who know how to wrap handlebars know what to do with this; it's essential. There are also two pieces of the wrap about 3-4 inches long (I didn't measure) to use as padding in a sensitive spot. These are to be used around the brake lever support on drop bars, which I learned watching a YouTube video. I have straight bars so I used the strips as extra padding in another spot where I sometimes get sore hands. In the center of each of the two rolls as they come in the package is a bar end plug. The two I got were different and neither fit. Minor issue in my case because I had others. The tape has what appears to be a strip of gel material on the back that runs the entire length of the tape for extra cushioning. I didn't expect this and it is a real bonus. This gel has a sticky surface with a strip of thin plastic you peel off so that when you wrap the tape, it sticks better. This helps a great deal with keeping the tape from slipping and becoming uneven or loose from riding. I took seriously the advice to practice wrapping a couple of times before I exposed the sticky surface. I'm glad because the tape wraps differently depending on which end you start with--it is not symmetrical. You'll see what I mean when you get it. This is also good, because the difference provides a sort of wrap guide and is differently padded. I also had to wrap it a couple of times to get the tightness right and to make sure I didn't use too much and run out or too little and get too thin a wrap. You also want to end up with a bit of tape overhanging when you finish so that you can tuck it into the bar end to be held in place by the plug. But that doesn't have to come out exact, as long as you aren't short, becasue you can trim with scissors. You should also wrap the tape in the direction that will prevent your grip from loosening it. This will depend on how you grip your bars and which way your hands naturally apply rotational friction to the bar. Wrap one way and this friction helps keep your tape snug; wrap the other and you may end up with loose tape down the road. Be aware that you should start from the inside and work to the ends of the bars. That means you will wrap each side in opposite directions. That should be obvious, but you also have to start at opposite ends of the tape to get the same edge out--remember the two edges of the tape are not the same. I suggest you look up a YouTube video on all this if you are a bar tape rookie as I was. I can say I like this wrap but this is my first time using something like this and don't really know what to compare it to. I read reviews on and off desertcart and decided this was the product I wanted to try. Again, not knowing others, I am happy with this. It is more durable than cork, cushions my hands better than the ergonomic grips I took off to replace with this, and seems well made. Of course I can't say how long it will last as I just put it on. I'm told cork is superior for comfort but wears out relatively quickly. This company has made cork wrap for a long time and recently came up with this wrap using a new material that is supposed to be equal to cork in comfort but mure durable. I hope so. Oct 2023 update: I removed the tape this week to replace with Wolf Tooth Fat Paw grips. I suffer chronically with sore hands and numb fingers when I ride and needed the best cushioning possible and the wrap was not it. But the wrap lasted for 7 years and did its job well--didn't come apart, slip, tear, or fail in any way. Just wasn't cushiony enough for me. As tape goes, I think it is still a 5 star product.
Review: Great looking, firm and durable. - I got this tape in yellow, in the hopes that it would be more comfy than my cheap cork bar tape and not tear as easily. This has delivered on both criteria pretty easily. The tape itself has a thinnish layer of foam on the underside, which has a sticky strip strip (not adhesive) down the middle to grip the bar while you wrap. This mean you just wrap the tape tight enough so that it doesn't move and you can undo and re-wrap if you miss a spot. There is a line sewn down off center on the tape which helps a lot to wrap it evenly. I probably wrapped mine too tightly, but there is no concern about ripping the tap while wrapping like there is with cork. The tape is firm (not so much thin, though) and not cushy or gel-like. For me this is an advantage - on my other bike I have "gel" cork tape which is much cushier, but not more comfortable for me. The longest ride I've ridden on this tape is 105 miles, at around 5 hours and I did not feel discomfort in my hands. I normally wear gloves and the grip of the tape is sure in light rain and somewhat sweaty gloves. I haven't used this is in the heavy rain, or with gloveless and very sweaty hands so I can't comment on the grip when very wet. The tape has a very high quality, almost leather like look. It's very attractive, and I decided to try a lighter color (yellow) since I was hoping it is washable. I've put about 800 miles on the tape - enough for it to start to darken from use. Using a rag with dishsoap I was able to lighten it back up and clean off grease that I got on the drops. This is pretty hard to do with cork/foam-like tape. The pattern is slightly different than the thin Fizik tape that is normally used with the Fizik gel inserts and the material seems more synthetic leather-like than the microfiber-like feel of the thinner Fizik tape. I really, really like this tape and think it's probably cheaper than most tape in the long run because of the durability.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent tape. A tad hard to install,
*by O***E on May 13, 2017*

This is a review for black Fizik Performance bar tape. It seems like all Fizik tape is generated under this review. It's thick, stiff, a little hard to install. You have to wrap slow and pull hard, it won't tear. This tape has a small raised ridge, this is where you start your over lap, however you can't do this around the bends. Go slow making sure you don't leave any gaps. If you do, no worry, it has a light adhesive backing and you can pull it off and try again. I really like the feel of this tape. Makes my bike feel different. Fizik bar tape is noted for being very long lasting and durable. The end pugs don't need a couple of layers of electrical tape, they fit nice and snug. I use black electrical tape for finishing tape, and cover it with the Fizik finishing tape. I have 44mm bars and I had to cut off a lot of tape, so you get more than enough. I had to struggle a little when installing this tape, but the end result was worth it. This tape looks and feels great, What else do you need? Great price at Amazon. Do it.
