Childhood friends to lovers, Romance, heartfelt
I’m convinced that Mia Sheridan has a magical touch with her books because, with each book I read I fall more in love with her and her characters, etc. From the very beginning with the prologue that introduced Jessica and Callen, I immediately felt a kinship with Jessica, and my heart went out to Callen. Mia has a way of reaching into your soul through her words, and captivating your entire attention, having you on the edge of your seat trying to anticipate where the story will lead to next. Fair warning, I’m going to be repeating myself by saying how much I fell in love with this book haha.Immediately with the first few pages, I felt connected to Jessica. While I have never studied French, I did relate to her with her love for fairytales when she was younger. When I was a kid, I was always playing pretend and imagining myself with my own prince. I would get swept up in the make believe world I created just as Jessica did, and similarly I used the stories of fairytales to escape the reality of my life when I was a kid. Jessica was a sweetheart, and reading just a bit of her own life from those first few pages, I already knew in my heart I loved her. Even that first meeting with Callen, I was intrigued to see who the mysterious boy was, and who he’d become to Jessica. Reading about Jessica and Callen when they were kids was so endearing, and I loved seeing those little pieces of memories they created together. The moment when Callen realized that Jessica was the woman he couldn’t stop thinking about, it made my heart swoon, but also be like, “why didn’t you recognize her earlier on??” Anyways, it was cute seeing Callen and Jessica jump back into the groove of their friendship, but also see how attracted they were to one another even after so many years apart. The chemistry between Jessica and Callen was palpable and fantastic! I adored the little glances, subtle moments that highlighted the love emanating between them. Once again, Mia Sheridan just knows the way to my heart, and the way she wrote Callen (as well as her other male characters from previous books) had me wanting to jump into the story, and have my own adventure with Callen. While Callen was portrayed as a “bad boy”, that was only partly due to Callen restoring to vices such as, drinking and one night stands to blur the harsh memories of all the bad things he endured in his life. When Callen was reunited with Jessica, he rekindled his relationship with Jessica, but also rediscovered a part of himself from when he was a kid around Jessica. For Callen being the “serious, bad boy” type, I found it endearing how he was sometimes shy or slightly obsessed with Jessica with him waiting around all day for her (in other words he was a total sucker/ simp for Jessica). This story gave me, “it’s always been you” trope vibes, with the way that Callen and Jessica were around each other, but also due to the fact that Jessica bought out a side in Callen that he hadn’t experienced in so many years. In addition, there was an immediate positive change in Callen that helped with his writer block for his music, and allowed him to feel a true sense of happiness that he always felt when being with Jessica. This story was absolutely beautiful and heartfelt. The message embedded within the story was inspiring and one I will try to remember in my life from now on. I enjoyed how Jessica’s and Callen’s story was kind of interconnected to the history of Adelaide and Oliver. There was a vibrancy to this story that really made me reflect on my life as well as seeing how Jessica and Callen went about their own lives. Overall, I fell in love with this book and of course the epilogue was a sweet ending to Callen and Jessica’s story, fate truly did have a plan for those two and I couldn’t say enough lovelier things about this story.

Mia gives us more than words in this beautiful second chance romance!
"But I also knew now that life was more than words. It was laughter and love, faith and joy. And mostly, it was the deep peace that came from living fiercely and without regret."Mia has given her readers another heartfelt story that weaves life lessons throughout, ones that every person needs to be reminded of every now and then, no matter how good they have it. And she does this in a unique way - through the discovery of ancient documents penned by a young woman living in the 1400's.Words can have a lasting impact on a person, as is the case with the Hero, Callen Hayes, who had ugly words hurled at him as a young boy. Those words have stayed with him into adulthood where the only things that seem to drown them out in his head is lots of booze and women. When he was a child, his friend Jessie was the balm that quieted his mind and soothed his soul. But he was suddenly taken away from her without warning.Fast forward 10 years and the heroine, Jessie, is working as a waitress in a lounge in Paris. Not her dream job, but her dream location, a place she had told Callen about when they were kids "Someday I'm going to go on the grandest adventure of all - I'm going to live in Paris, have a French boyfriend who writes me the most beautiful love letters ever, and I'm going to eat French chocolate all day long."When fate brings them together in France, it dredges up so many memories for both of them. Good memories of the times they spent together, but also the bad memories they both have of events that happened when they were kids. And it also shows them the two vastly different paths they each took in the past ten years.I loved getting the point of view of both Jessie and Callen. Particularly Callen, who appeared to be this successful, award winning composer but in fact was hiding a slew of painful secrets from everyone. The vices he indulged in to numb the constant voices in his head made me very sad.I admired and loved Jessie. She was a strong young woman who had a good head on her shoulders. She knew what she wanted and was doing everything she could to accomplish the goals she set for herself. As strong as she was, she had a weakness when it came to Callen. She's never forgotten about him, even though he disappeared without a trace when they were kids. He was her Prince and she's held onto that dream for the past 10 years.Mia masterfully weaves the letters from the young woman in 1400's France that Jessie is translating into the present day. The fears and insecurities the young woman felt, not so different than what Jessie and Callen are feeling now. It is obvious these two are very much in love, but how can they ever forge a path forward when Callen doesn't feel worthy of someone as precious as Jessie is to him? This story was an emotional roller coaster. I felt all the highs and all the lows these characters felt. I wanted to shake Callen (most of the time) for the things he was doing. I cheered Jessie on when she would put him is his place. I wasn't sure they were going to be able to overcome the obstacles in their path, mainly Callen's fears, the secrets he was hiding, and the way his debauched lifestyle kept rearing its ugly head. But fate has a way of intervening when two people are supposed to be together.Mia never ceases to amaze me with her storytelling, and this book particularly held so much insight with the way she wove the historical element through present day. I personally love anything history related, and regardless that this is a work of fiction, I absolutely loved reading those translated passages from the past. I waited with baited breath for each one to come so I could find out what was happening with that young woman from so long ago. Would she find her happily ever after? Were Jessie and Callen going to find theirs as well?Bravo, Mia on this beautiful story of second chance love, forgiveness and redemption. I loved it!

Love this book!
This was an incredible book. I love history so it was super interesting to read something regarding old manuscripts and for me it was unique to read about Callen’s challenge (no spoilers!) while he was an accomplished musician. I highly recommend it!

A really lovely story of fate and love!
Jessica and Callen meet as children at a time when both their childhoods are very unhappy. For two years the pair play together every week sharing their hopes and dreams for the future, but one day it becomes clear they could be more than just friends and then Callen just disappears. It's 10 years before fate brings them back together and their lives and problems have gone in different directions, but fate seems to be working very hard to put them together. Could they work things out? This was a lovely story running along side a story in history where the characters similarities helped the storyline. A different kind of love story but very sweet and well written by Mia Sheridan as usual. Highly recommend this; it doesn't set anything on fire; however a really good read.

Perfect beach read
After reading Archer's Voice, which in my opinion has the most perfectly described first kiss ever, I have been a fan of Mia Sheridan and she remains my go to author for when I need a romance novel. She is an expert at creating damaged characters who have so much depth that their journey quickly occupies your thoughts. This book delivers on that front. This was an enjoyable read and would make the perfect accompaniment for any beach holiday.

Lost for words
I have read most of Mia Sheridan books and have yet to be disappointed. This book kept me reading until the end, no breaks. I truly enjoy her writing style and am always considering the books long after I have finished reading. Some times, I find the main characters in this genre to be weak or dislikable, but never in Mia Sheridans, she spins a story that always draws me in and rooting for the characters. Thank you always a 5 star read
