## Description

desertcart.com: bayite 4" Survival Ferro Rod Drilled Flint Fire Starter and Striker Kit | Ferrocerium Rod with Paracord Landyard Handle and Striker, 4"(Long) x 3/8"(Diameter) : Sports & Outdoors

Review: Reliable, Well-Made Fire Starter That’s Perfect for Survival Training and Field Use - The bayite 4-inch ferrocerium fire starter is an excellent piece of survival gear and one I’ve been very happy with. It’s simple, durable, and does exactly what a ferro rod should do without gimmicks or unnecessary extras. This is the kind of tool you want to trust when conditions aren’t ideal. Build quality is solid right out of the package. The ferro rod itself is thick at 3/8 inch in diameter, which makes a big difference in durability and spark production. It doesn’t feel brittle or cheap, and it holds up well to repeated strikes. The 4-inch length is a great balance. It’s long enough to get a strong, controlled strike but still compact enough to pack easily in a kit, pocket, or pack. Spark output is excellent. With a proper strike, it throws a shower of hot sparks that ignite tinder quickly and reliably. Even with basic tinder or slightly less-than-perfect conditions, it performs consistently. This makes it especially good for beginners learning fire-starting skills as well as experienced users who want something dependable. The handle and paracord lanyard are well done. The handle provides a good grip, even with gloves on or in damp conditions, and the drilled rod with the paracord keeps everything together nicely. It’s easy to hang from a pack, clip to gear, or keep secured so it doesn’t get lost. The striker works well and produces clean sparks without excessive effort. This fire starter is especially well suited for survival training, camping, hiking, and emergency kits. It’s rugged enough to be used by youths and adults alike without worrying about it wearing out quickly. It also holds up well when used repeatedly during training sessions, which says a lot about its durability. There’s nothing flashy here, and that’s a good thing. It’s a straightforward, well-designed ferro rod kit that focuses on performance and reliability. No unnecessary parts, no fragile components, just a solid fire-starting tool that works when you need it to. Overall, this is a dependable, high-quality ferrocerium fire starter that performs exactly as advertised. Strong spark output, good grip, durable construction, and practical size make it an easy five-star item. If you’re building a survival kit or teaching fire-starting skills, this is a great choice you can rely on.
Review: Spectacular - As a big fan of Survivor and The Walking Dead, I picked this up mostly “just in case,” and I’m really glad I did. The quality of this ferro rod is excellent—it’s solid, well-sized at 4 inches long and 3/8 inch thick, and feels like it will last through countless strikes. The included striker works great, producing a huge spark every time with very little effort. I tested it on some dry tinder, and it caught quickly, which gives me confidence it would perform in a real survival or camping situation. The drilled rod and paracord lanyard make it easy to carry, and the handle provides a secure grip for consistent strikes. Overall, this is a durable, reliable fire starter that’s fun to practice with and practical to keep in a pack or emergency kit. If you’re a survival enthusiast—or just want to be prepared—it’s a simple, effective tool that really delivers.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it have magnesium**
A: Yes. Ferrocerium rod is made from Iron, Magnesium and mostly of an alloy of rare earth metals called mischmetal with an excellent pyrophoric percentage : 98%min.

**Q: Can you scrape pieces of the rod into your kindling with the striker itself? Or only use it to strike?**
A: My experience with this rod is you cannot scrape off bits of rod material like the inexpensive fire starters you can get at Harbor Freight. BUT... you do not need to. Striking this rod produces some very strong and hot sparks. I have had no problems starting a fire by striking sparks into a cotton ball coated with petroleum jelly.

**Q: What is the country of manufacturer?**
A: It is made in China.

**Q: Approximately how many strikes will it last?**
A: This Ferro Rod showers sparks! Of course, you have to scrape the top layer off first. I only scrape off about 20% of the coating so the coating to extend the life of the rod. I agree that this Rod should provide 100's of strikes...even though the company says 1,000's. Excellent product.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow does this thing throw sparks! FOLLOW UP EDIT 2/4/2021
*by J***G on June 16, 2020*

We got this for a camping trip to Boundary Waters Canoe Area as a back-up fire starter. I am so impressed with the amount of spark this thing throws with just minimal effort! It is now my primary fire starter. If I could only take two items in a survival scenario this would be #2 next to a great water filter. Here is the rundown on why I love it: * It is an insane value given it's quality and ability to start a fire. I have payed more and gotten a lot less in other products. * This works even when your gear gets wet. Just keep some dry tender and/or companion magnesium powder. * Operation is simple and predictable. My kids can even use it. * The thing is sized so you wont lose it but small and light enough that it will not encumber you. * Packaged well, shipped promptly, great product/customer support. The only wrinkle I had with it was my own fault. The ferro rod comes with a protective coating/paint that has to be scraped off before it will spark. Took me like 4 seconds to realize this and then it was no factor. I hope this helps you make an informed decision or maybe a deformed incision... ~Mahalo 2/4/2021 FOLLOW UP I lost my ferro rod! I was going to shoot a video of this thing in action and realized I lost it on my last camping trip.. Without a doubt I will order this one again, I love it so much. Other rods out there don't even tempt me after using this one. I see a lot of reviews condemning the striker. The striker may not be the most ergonomic but please keep in mind it is an intentionally engineered product. The steel in the striker is a specific steel with a specific composition and hardness. A different striker may not produce the same shower of sparks.
