Amazing pen in looks and performance
This is my first fountain pen I have used in years. THe only other pen I had was a Sheaffer pen that took the old skript cartridges. I loved that pen despite the horrible ink and the tendency to leak and bleed. Well I recently decided to start journaling and I wanted something special to jot down my thoughts and ideas. When I came across this pen I was in love with the photos. I figured at the low price it was worth a shot. My expectations were low as I know how the photos are always the "special" model and the real thing would never even come close. Boy was so wrong. The pen I received is better looking than the photo. The inlays have so much depth and personality. The black enameled barrel and silver trim just scream elegance. After picking the pen up for the first time I was amazed at how good it felt in the hand. I love a weighty wider pen (my work EDC is a bolt action brass ballpoint that weighs over almost 2 ounces). This pen has great weight (my scales battery is dead but I'm guessing it comes in at just over and ounce with the cap). While all this weight and beauty are well and good, unless the pen writes well it is for naught. I read a lot online on how to clean and prep a new pen. I followed the directions and cleaned it well. I had also purchased some Jinhao cartridges and some Parker bottled ink. I went with an Orange colored cartridge first. The cartridge snapped in easy and I was ready to go. After waiting 5 mins I tried to write to no avail. Try as I might I could not get any ink. After more research I tried pressing the tip down hard enough to split the ink channel apart slightly. The ink started to flow and after a few scribbles and skips a consistent flow was achieved. I wrote nearly a full page without a skip or blot. This pen writes as amazing as it looks. The tip nearly glides over the paper (very cheap notebook paper) and feels as smooth as a rollerball gel pen. After another 2 pages of writing I noticed that the ink flow has gotten a little wetter but not to the point where I'm getting bleeding or blots. I also realized that my cursive writing is MUCH neater than it ever has been. I have terrible handwriting but this pen does something to my writing that makes it almost neat. I actually used to hate writing cursive as it is always so hard for me to read my own writing. Now it is enjoyable and even my wife said my cursive is actually readable. I'm a total convert to the fountain pen and am on a search for an EDC for work (no way this beauty is going to work because we are pretty brutal on pens at work, hence the heavy duty brass pen I use now). I also need to find a fast dry ink that can write on masking tape as we jot a lot of quick notes on tape to label our parts. If your on the fence about this one, I will say that the weight, amazing looks, and fine nib combined with an excellent ink performance system really makes this pen a steal at twice the price. Just be sure to order some ink (either bottled or cartridges) so you can enjoy the writing experience.

I'm Enjoying This Pen
I like the lines this nib produces. When used flatly the thick line is bold enough for my purposes. It delivers lines at various angles, so I can get thinner lines out of it as well. The nib gives a smooth writing experience at most of the angles I use it.The cap is post-able even if you're not supposed to. However, I find it a little too weighted on the back end when I posted the cap to the back. That's because the pen cap is fairly heavy on it's own. Since the weight of the pen is heavy enough for my tastes, I don't miss the addition of the cap weight pulling at the back.I have to say, if I knew someone who enjoyed fountain pens and different nib styles, I would definitely consider this pen a great give. And the cost is reasonable enough to add a journal and ink for a nice gift set. It would make a very cool stocking-stuffer.

Excellent Value
This is the third Jinhao fountain pen I've owned---one of them I still use, and the other was destroyed by the dogs---that was the fine point pen so I ordered this new one, also a fine point. The other one I use has a medium point. I've been more than satisfied with these pens. They don't leak. They write smoothly with a smooth flow of ink with no blotches or skips. I use one of them every day.

Jinhaos Are Great Writers for not a Lot of Money
I own several Jinhao fountain pens and they all are solid performers. I got this one because I like how it looks and all my other Jinhaos were wonderful to use.My small but growing fountain pen collection allows me to rotate through a few each month. I have several much more expensive pens, but the Jinhaos all perform exactly as expected - great! If you are looking to add to your collection or are just starting out, I think this would be a good choice.

Good for the price and what it is
Overall I do like the pen but it's not perfect. I'm knocking one star off because the finial is a JOKE. There are no pictures of the finial here so I don't know precisely what it's supposed to look like, but I have seen photos of others' that suggest it should be a silver logo. The one on mine is a plain black dot with the glue or whatever used to stick it on seeped out from underneath before it dried. I don't care all that much whether it's a black dot or silver, it's a sodding Jinhao (value will only go down, not up), but it looks like a toddler stuck it on with a hot glue gun. It's touches like those that remind you this pen is less than twenty dollars.QC on Jinhao pens seems to be kind of hit and miss but besides the finial I think the one I got was a hit. There are no flaws or blemishes in the lacquer barrel or any other parts (section, cap) and the brass pen, while heavy, is balanced well enough to be comfortable for even a long writing session. Some of the pearl panels are a little crooked, but it's not glaringly obvious; only when I looked closely for blemishes did I notice. The clip looks cheap, and I would be worried about it breaking off if I used clips. The nib says "18KGP" which presumably stands for "18 karot gold plate" which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I'm sure the silver-colored steel nib is not actually gold plated, it's just a feeling I have.I washed the pen out with soap water before writing. It came with a converter but no cartridge, which is fine for me because I don't use the latter, but I'm sure that someone who doesn't use bottled ink and was counting on a cartridge might be bummed out.The nib did need adjusting before it would write. The flow was extremely dry, that the black ink (Aurora, today) came out more grey. This was easily remedied by pushing the tines upward with my fingernail. The nib is very smooth, no hard starts or skips. Some people have mentioned that their nibs don't write well at all, and it seems common practice to replace the Jinhao nib with something else. There is only one available nib size and I'd say it's on the wider end of a western medium. It's a little wider than the Pilot Vanishing Point's medium, but smaller than a Lamy broad. Is it a hundred bucks? No. But it's a lot prettier than $17 would suggest, at least when it's new. I had my sister (who knows nothing about fountain pens) guess what it was worth, and she guessed $150. Apparently some people have had problems with the chrome finish quickly wearing off, misaligned cap seal (which is plastic, which makes me question whether it will hold up over time), and other similar problems. I'm anticipating any and all of these things to happen to my pen. I've only used it for a couple hours so who knows?

Four Stars
lovely
2**.
Jinhao Rosewood Fountain Pen, Curved Nib.
I love this Pen in itself, it arrived fast! The Pen is beautiful ... however, the Nib is NOT a Flex Nib as stated. So NOT suitable, for writing Calligraphy, which is a great shame. So I've subtracted 1 Star. I DO think however, that this Pen will give me a great deal of enjoyment, when writing, for years to come. I Love the weight in and the balans of it in my hand. Writing with a wooden grip, is really lovely. I also love the thickness of the Pen, great for people bothered with Arthritis!! Kind regards, L.B.

Nice looking pen
Nice looking pen, although it is on the heavy side. I have the Fude de Mannen nib. I use it mostly for sketching, vs. writing. Ink flow is a little slow when making heavy lines, so you do get some railroading, etc. (this is with Platinum carbon ink) Don't think the feed can keep up. Haven't had time to "fiddle" with it. May try to open the ink channel a bit. Compared to my other bent nib, (Sailor) its not as nice to draw with, as my Sailor Fude draws really wet. OTOH this pen looks like a million bucks!

A good bent nib pen for the price.
This is a good pen. It does what can be done with a bent nib. The calligraphy with it is not as good as an italic nib. It is probably a fine drawing pen and writes well. I recommend it especially if you like to write with a variety of line thicknesses. You will have to practise quite a bit if you want shadded writing. The pen is well constructed.
