First Impressions - Great Fan
First thoughts........4 out of 5 stars because the fan speed could be half what it is and still be enough. My Lasko 40 inch hybrid fan just arrived today and I could not wait to put it together and see the results. So here's my first impression.Fit and finish is good, easily put together.Noise. The fan makes very little noise, but rather it's the wish of air moving through the column that makes the most noise. This fan pushes a lot of air! The reviews that speak the lowest setting has been more than enough are completely correct. The low setting on this fan is equivalent to pushing the air that a normal tower fan would push on a high setting. It's enough that I'm wondering if adding a resistor or something would be possible to reduce the speeds. In a bedroom I'll never use the high setting and rarely the medium. It would be nice to have lower speeds for bedroom settings. However, that said, in the office, a large room, a garage, this would push a wonderful amount of there.Oscillator. Seems perfect. Some people complain that it does not oscillate in a wide enough pattern. I'm not sure what they expect from a $65 machine. I While it does not do a complete 90° corner, I don't know a tower fan that does. It's oscillating pattern is approximately 45°, which is standard for a tower fan.Remote. Not perfect but it works. It would be nice if the buttons had white labels on them instead of black on black, but it works. There's even a handy holder on the back of the fan to place your remote. I'm nice touch.I'll come back with an update in a couple of weeks. Right now the fan has been running for approximately four hours and seems to be doing fine. I'll keep you posted!UPDATE 8/1/14Still love this fan. The low setting is plenty of air and as fans go this one is quiet when compared to box and other floor fans. No, it's not as quiet as a true tower fan, but this one really pushes a lot of air. In bedrooms the low setting is more than enough. I tried using a "dimmer" extension to reduce the power on all speeds but it creates a rather loud 60 mghz type noise (humming noise). So I only use the low setting, which is plenty anyhow. If this was used in a another room or the garage, you could use higher speeds. OVERALL.....Love this fan!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfectly Suits My Needs!
I live in New England, and this summer has been pretty brutal insofar as temperature is concerned. I am terrible when it comes to heat, and am one of "those" types of people that sweats profusely just moving an inch in 85+ degree weather. There's a reason I live here: I like colder weather, not weather that feels like I'm walking on the surface of the Sun.But, I digress. My situation is that in which I live with three roommates, one of whom is my boyfriend and despite his small frame produces an excessive amount of heat. This only exacerbates the hot and sleepless nights, and I've already told him (jokingly) that he is not to come near me until Winter arrives. Moreover, air conditioning is not an option in our apartment due to the expense and practicality of it. So it became necessary to invest in a fan that could at least provide some relief to an otherwise hopeless situation. After spending quite a bit of time searching reviews, and reading up on product information, I decided to take the plunge and invest in the Lasko Hybrid. I am so glad I did! To me, it is a perfect fan, but to my boyfriend, it is not. As other reviewers have mentioned, it is not a silent piece of machinery. But the loudness factor is definitely subjective, because what is too loud for some may not be for others. Personally, the noise this thing produces does not bother me at all. I could quite easily sleep with this thing on any of the three speed settings. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is sensitive to noises at night, and he doesn't like sleeping with this fan on unless it's on the lowest setting. So my advice is that to those who don't like background noise when sleeping, don't buy this for your bedroom. But, if you're like me, and you like to sleep with white noise, then this fan is quite pleasant in that regard.Upon arrival, I noticed that the box was shipped as is, right in the manufacturer's box. The box was not placed inside of another box for shipping, but appeared to be literally taken off the warehouse shelf after which a shipping label was slapped on it. So naturally the box was a bit beaten up when it arrived. I cared more about the product itself, but if the box is important for you to arrive in pristine condition, this is a fact you should be aware of beforehand. The fan itself was not damaged at all. When you first open the box, you should locate the screws immediately or else they may get lost when you take everything out of the packaging. The screws are in a tiny plastic bag at the top of the styrofoam packaging, and could quite easily be overlooked if you didn't know to look for them. My guess is that those who said they never received screws probably did but ended up throwing them away on accident. You never know, but it's not unlikely given how discreet they are. There are 8 screws in total that will require a normal, Phillips head screwdriver. This is for securing the plastic base to the fan, and yes, it is very easy to do as long as you have the correct tool for the job.The buttons at the top are very easy to use, and so far I have not had any problem with needing to press hard to get them to respond. It works just fine for me. The blue LED lights are bright though, but not overpowering. But just like some people are sensitive to sounds at night, others may be sensitive to lights, so if ambient lighting is an issue then I recommend putting something on top of the fan, like a sock, to cover up the light. The nightlight is also pretty dim, and I have no use for it but I guess it's there should I never need one. The remote control is very useful too, especially at night when it gets too cold and I want to shut off the fan without getting out of bed. But, most importantly, just how does the fan actually perform? For me, this fan is amazing. The "hurricane" description someone used I think is an over-exaggeration, but it is quite strong. By strong, I mean that I can feel it even though I sleep about 12 feet away from the thing. I imagine that if you're even a few feet further than that you'll still feel it. And that is on all of the settings, not just the highest one. The lowest setting is great if you want a "breeze" effect, especially when on oscillation mode. The second setting is a good all-around setting on warm days when you need a little more air. For most people, this speed will be sufficient. Though some people claim that the third speed is too much, I actually think it is perfect, and JUST right, on those gross humid days that make people like myself sweat profusely. I don't know how I have lived this long without this fan, but the highest setting is ideal for large amounts of air flow. Also, the oscillation movement is completely silent, and you will not hear any difference between it being turned on or off. That is a bonus for me, as I own a small table-top Lasko fan that makes a mechanical noise whenever it reaches the point that it needs to switch direction. I've never been able to sleep with that fan for that reason, so the lack of mechanical noises is appreciated. Overall, this fan does exactly what it promises, and has been a relief for me on hot days. I am very picky when it comes to making online purchases, and do not hesitate to return items if they don't completely meet my expectations. This is one such item I will not be returning, and have no regrets in shelling out the money for this item. I love it, and cannot recommend it highly enough, though I can see how it won't suit everyone's needs based on the points I mentioned earlier.

Good Fan but too Loud
I was debating on giving this four stars or just three. I have been using this fan for a couple of weeks now. What is good about it is that it does push air nicely, as well as the traditional pedestal round fans. I have it about 20 feet away from me, where I had my other fan, and I can feel it and it circulates the air well. It also comes with a remote. It also isn't like the traditional fans where they take up a lot of space, as this is a tower style. The problem that I have with the fan is how loud it is. I love the sound of a fan, it helps me to sleep at night, but this fan is really loud. I would have to compare it to some barn fans, if you ever heard one. That is why I only gave it 3 stars. If it was quiet I would have given it 4 and probably 5 stars. I read another review before I bought it where someone said it is like living next to an airport, I thought he was exaggerating, I guess not totally. It would be nice if they didn't put the blue light on it to show that it is on, the light is fairly bright. I am not referring to the night light either that is built in, the night light you can turn off. The on light gives off a fair amount of light and I don't see why it is needed else they could give the option to turn the light off as well. The remote doesn't work that great, it does work, but you have to be aiming directly at it, most remotes, even ones from the 80s you didn't have to aim directly at devices, for the most part you could just press the button wherever it was pointed and it would work, but the fan remote you need to be almost dead on when aiming otherwise it will not recognize the input. The light and the remote I don't nock down any stars for it. I drop it down because of how loud it is.
