I've used several different black dyes, but Ion is the only at home hair color that I have used that gives me a natural look. Other black dyes make it appear as though I am wearing a wig. Ion also gives my hair a nice shine and healthy appearance. Other dyes have actually damaged my hair, but not Ion. The color is long lasting. It starts to dull after 3 months. For me, it takes 6 months for the dye to fade out. So if you are wanting to change your hair color from black, you should be able to safely after 6 months, from my experience. I have been able to successfully strip the dye after the 6 month mark to then dye lighter.
