Nice center channel speaker with some quirks
I purchased the Definitive Technology Mythos 7 and the Yamaha 310CS to compare them in my HT system. I chose these two speakers specifically because they are both low-profile and will fit, or nearly fit, under my TV which sits on top of an entertainment center cabinet. The clearance between the cabinet top and the bottom of the TV is 3.5" so any speaker taller than that will encroach on the bottom of the screen in most viewing positions. To get right to the point, I simply could not justify the $200 difference in the Mythos 7 as opposed to the 310CS. The former is $399 and the latter $199. What really made my decision for me was the quirky way the input connectors were oriented on the Mythos. They stuck straight out from the back and were positioned to the far left (looking from the back) of the enclosure. The problem this created was that the banana plug connectors could possibly short out on the metal legs of my TV which form a shape like ><; it's a 2012 Samsung 46" SmartTV. The other issue was that the Mythos enclosure, not the front panel, is made of hard plastic. To compare, the Yamaha speaker connectors are centered on the back and facing down so the banana plugs were no where near the TV stand. The Yamaha speaker enclosure was made from wood, real wood, not particle board and a veneer. Both had an aluminum face plate where the speakers were mounted. Also, the Yamaha had a slightly smaller profile top to bottom so did not encroach on the bottom of my TV screen the way the Mythos did.For $200 I got a product that I would pit against the Mythos any day and still come out ahead by $200. By the way, I have a Def Tec SuperCube 4000 so I'm not anti-Def Tec. I just look for what works well in my system and the best value.

no complaints but i am not blown away
i bought this mainly because of who made it (I bought a def. supercube subwoofer, based on amazon reviews, and it is really great) and because of its size. i wanted something that would fit in front (at the bottom) of my panel, without obscuring anything, and it does, no problem.the sound is Ok, and a big improvement over using two fronts, but i do not find the sound quality anything special. however, i am not much of an audiophile. I probably should not have spent so much but the size was important.i do find, in general, that sound that comes off 5.1 streaming content (which is what i primarily watch--netflix, amz) is not as good as that which comes off some of the well-produced primetime shows (like Bones, which has very good sound effects), and that their sound, in turn, generally pales in comparison to a physical bluray disk. All of this is not the fault of this device. If amazon allowed half stars I'd give it 3.5, but because of its price, its hard to give it 4.

Couldn't Ask for More!
I've been using this Definitive Mythos 7 speaker for a year now, and I wanted to report on it.When I moved last October, I had the local A/V guys install a Down-and-Out Mount by Dynamic Mounting over my fireplace (see attached photograph, with the mount pulled down). Unfortunately, my Polk center channel speaker wouldn't fit the mount, so they recommended I buy the Mythos 7.I've been running it via a Yamaha RX-A810 and paired with two Polk RTI-a3s in the front and RTI-a1s in the back, and it's behaved absolutely brilliantly. As other reviewers have suggested, it's a real workhorse of a speaker, brilliantly pushing out dialogue like something that costs twice its price. Don't be fooled by its low profile; it does the job of a far larger unit.I would gladly buy one again if I needed to, and I can recommend it highly and without reservation to anyone looking for a small, powerful center-channel speaker for their A/V system.

Great center speaker for a large room
I got this for a center speaker to fit in a cabinet under my TV. The cabinet shelf limited the size of the speaker, so I could not get the larger one I wanted, but I have not been disappointed. This one sounds great and is well balanced with the larger Definitive Technology VDCB Mythos 8 Speakers that I got for either side of the TV. In retrospect, I didn't need the larger one. Our sofa is 16' from the speakers and they throw the sound well, even at that range. Good crisp dynamic range. Excellent highs and midrange (I have a subwoofer and have set the cutover to match it's capabilities, so I am not fully experiencing the low end of the center speaker's range.)

Excellent speaker, poor customer service.
Excellent center channel. There aren't many centers in this price range that are so wonderfully compact. Connected it to the TV wall mount so they move together and maintain the admirably small profile. I docked a star for Customer Service as the first item I received had no mounting screws but Def Tech customer service did not even respond to my inquiries asking what size and thread was required.

It sounded great but I was looking for something with a little more oomph. Despite being more expensive than the ProCenter 2000 it doesn't have the low end. I talked with Def Tech and they recommended to only go with the Mythos 7 if space or aesthetics was all you were going for. While it's good for it's size I would undoubtedly go with at least the ProCenter 2000. I actually upgraded to the 8080hd and was blown away by the difference.

If you need a slim center channel speaker, look no further.
First, understand that you are looking at a slim form factor center speaker. The size of the drivers lead to an inherently more limited sound range versus a larger center channel. That said, this is one stunning sounding slim center speaker. I have tried a slim Pinnacle Quantum Plasma center speaker, as well as the Yamaha NS-C310BL slim center speaker. And while the Yamaha is a great speaker, it cannot match the sound dynamics of the Mythos 7; even with less drivers. They also voice match great with my Pioneer SP-FS52 floor speakers.tl;dr - If you need a slim center channel speaker, look no further.

Great speaker, great brand.
I bought the Mythos 7 to match my two Mythos 10s and two Di 5.5 BPS surrounds. The other speakers are definitely where the oomph is so I really don't notice the center channel too much. I didn't want anything too big underneath my TV so I went with this. Looks nice aesthetically.
