Nero Trigger - Light and Sound Activated Camera Trigger with Color LCD User Interface
This detector is one of the easiest to setup and use straight out of the box.It is easy to see and read the main menu, adjustment of the sensitivity setting on the unit is a breeze, this is very helpfull for repeatability.I have tried it in all modes and it works just as well in one as it does the other. The unit can be triggered in the sound mode with a clap of the hands from across the room. For the Laser trigger mode I purchased a cheap laser pen.The DIY mode requires a simple open close connection,Timelapse and HDR modes are very nice features and easy to use.It is small and compact in size, easy to find a place in the camera bag for it.It can be detached from the camera for use, or it can be mounted to the hot shoe of the camera, in both cases the trigger cable is needed.A quality piece of equipment.

It didn’t work
Bought it awhile ago, but only got some lightning to test it on a few weeks ago. Battery meter said full charge, was NOT using rechargeable batteries. Had sensitivity set at 99. Major storm overhead and it wouldn’t trigger the shutter. The directions are pretty minimal, not sure what else to do. The unit seems to be nicely made; it is however a tight fit onto my hot shoe. Really disappointed to come home with no shots fired 11/1/18: I can’t find any way to contact the seller. I have tried mine three times it has never worked

I have not been able to get this to trigger ...
I have not been able to get this to trigger successfully for flashes of lightning. The response is too slow to trigger a D7000 off sound so I will have to try using this with a flash unit.

Great aid to many shooting situations
I have used each of the options on this trigger and each are pretty easy to figure out although it can take a few times to figure out the settings. For example, when using the lightning option, it takes a few attempts to figure out which intensity setting is best for different situations since it does matter how far you are away from the storm. Once you get that figured out however, I feel that it performs great! The laser option can allow you to get really cool shots of different wildlife. I have even just used it to get neat photos of my dogs as they are running by. I do feel that this is pretty expensive but it does allow me to get many shots which are almost impossible without it so I do feel that it is worth it!

Now THIS is Fun!
For many years I had been using my equipment the manual way to get lightning: Set up, adjust for proper exposure with 30 second shutter times, and just sit there with a remote and do it over and over and over and over again. And I got a few really nice pictures. I got tired of the manual process and went for this unit. Thinking it a bit expensive, I changed my mind after the fact. In just one night I captured four excellent strikes and one okay strike -- while I was sleeping. Now that's lazy!At least in the lightning mode, the sensitivity takes some getting used to. It is pretty easy to have it triggering on things as mundane as clouds. I even had it trigger on the late stages of a sunrise, which is odd to me because that's a pretty slow brightening. Then you need to drop it, but not too low. Experiment and take notes, you'll get it.I could not find the Canon cable here on amazon, I'm not sure why, so I had to buy a third party one. The camera came with a cable which appears to be a cable for a Canon FLASH not the camera(?).The only thing I don't like about the unit is the construction. While I won't call it shoddy, it is absolutely not very solid. I would be very worried if I dropped it on concrete or bumped it hard against a wall. The little block which lets you attach it to your hot shoe is probably the worst thing about this item: At least on my unit it was held on only by strong glue, and it was not glued on straight. Thus when it's mounted, it's not exactly straight. You really have to look for it though to notice. It does not affect operation. Maybe it's a one-off.I believe the best thing about this unit is the battery life. It takes two aaa batteries (included). I haven't had to change them yet, and I have probably done five sessions ranging from all day while I was at work to all night, and the battery meter barely nudged down. I can't say if it's accurate, though.I believe the price is a touch high, but it works quite a treat and is just great fun!

Good deal!
I returned a less costly trigger to purchase the Nero. The returned one was just OK, but the Nero trigger is well built. I haven't tried it in the "field" but it tests out well. One thing to note is that the proximity mode works by setting up a laser or other narrow light beam; passing through the beam triggers the camera. The less expensive version in this mode was triggered by sound. I don't know which one is better, but I feel it's a consideration.

Great product, easy to use!
I have used the laser trigger, sound trigger and light trigger. All work as advertised. I have had a little bit of trouble getting the menu to switch from tolerance to delay to frame but its minor. I used the laser trigger for some water drop photography and was quite happy with the results. Living in Oklahoma I should get a good opportunity to check out the lightning detection this spring. All in all, happy with the product!
