Best Radio for The Money!
Very good sound quality, we use it in a warehouse through metal siding and the signal is very strong. Had a problem with the Battery and the manufacture took care of it right away with a new battery. Other than the battery issue, I would compare this with a $400 or $500.00 radio. We tried several different radios and this one out performed them all. Highly recommended!

Fantastic radios!
I bought 8 of these for a high school theatre program. One had issues, but we didn't know until after the return window because they were just in storage until the show. Amazon and the retailer were AWESOME and let us exchange it anyway. I don't expect that equipment like this will never have the occasional lemon. What I didn't expect was that Amazon and the retailer would be so great about it. Thanks!

Great Radio, I have 6
Great Radio, I have 6, unfortunately every one of the six has a broken antenna. I'm looking for something similar with a sturdier antenna design, no luck so far.

GXT1000 are way better for about 1/3 the price
GXT1000 are way better for about 1/3 the price!! These claim to be "Military Spec". But out of the 15 my company bought about 6 of them have broken on their first drop. ( I have had the GXT1000 for a few months now and apart from a few scuffs they are still holding up way better than the 5000s)Pros: The sound is very crisp! The lithium battery is awesome!Water resistant.Midland is a wonder company to deal with! They really back their products.Cons: the antenna is not attached very well. Those 6 that broke on the first drop have broken either the antenna and or the power/volume nob. The mic must also not be that great because when someone is speaking using one of these it sounds very low on all radios (both GXT1000s and GXT5000s and other midland models that others have on our crew). In conclusion; if you are not going to be working in the rain or near water, or if you don't mind charging your walkie every 12 hours (of heavy use). DO NOT GET THIS MODEL. You'll get a way better bang for your buck with the GXT1000 model (don't even think about the 2000s either! Midland doesn't even sell those themselves anymore..)

Will destroy GFI's inside buildings, VERY powerful
Was very disappointed in these. The product seems to be of very high quality and was very simple to setup and program. The signal was clear and good in a 6 story 120 room building in the heart of a major urban center. However, they are so powerful that they caused GFI's within 10 feet to vibrate, pop, and permanently break. Considering that our rooms are all of small dimension and contain 2 GFI's each, it would have been very bad to continue using these as they destroy electrical systems apparently.Probably best used in the woods.

Good Product but not 36 Mile Range
Overall I am very pleased with these radios, I bought 2 and have not had any problems with them but they claim to have a range of up to 36 miles. I travel from time to time and I have tested these when my family was following me on a trip. I drive across 3 states on a straight highway and could hardly get reception of about 1 mile. We just traveled from Texas to California and tested these every day and on a completely straight road with no trees and no hills. Basically when driving across Arizona on a long straight stretch on even terrain, no hills or curves I would fall back from my lead vehicle and once I fell back about 1 mile we started to loose transmission and at 1.5 miles, NO Reception. I have tested these radios on about 3 trips over the past year and if in an area that has trees and hills I loose reception at less than a mile. Midland claims these have a range of up to 36 miles. I have never had a range of more than 1.5 miles under different contrasting environments and conditions. These radios perform far less than what is claimed.I WOULD NOT BUY THEM AGAIN.Overall I have been happy with them but they are not the quality as claimed.

too expensive for what I need
I just need the longest range walkie talkie that I can find on the market and for this I could have bought a Motorola one that does the same thing from Costco at almost 1/4 the price. Maybe this has other functions that are real useful to other users but they weren't for me.
