I used it for the first night and the next morning the filter was yellow and rock hard.** A: We will be happy to explain this. Discoloration is normal to see with the filters, as the filter is absorbing the minerals in your water. If your air is particularly dry, the water can evaporate from the filter faster than the filter can wick up the water. We would advise running the unit constantly, checking occasionally to make sure the filter is damp, until the humidity in the room starts to rise and stabilize. This vaporizer works great and the large capacity lasts all day on low or medium setting. As others have explained, it pulls in dry air and the wicking filter adds moister before returning cool air out. No mist like some other models. But after a few hours of running you can tell it is working well. **Q: The filter currently inmy V3900 is shaped like a standard sponge. The replacement filter (WF2) looks like a cylinder that's slightly caved in. Huh?** A: I've always bought the wick filter, but there are so terribly flimsy, and if you use it often you'll need to change it within 2 weeks. Also, it's pricey. But I can't seem to find an alternative to it. I run a humidifier in my office (I have a lot of finicky plants), but I was limited to where I could put the thing due to everything around it getting hit with moisture. This thing works SO great and does not put out one ounce of mist. I, literally have it sitting on my carpet and NOTHING is wet. NOTHING!! I am not 100% sure on the science behind it, but instead of shooting water vapor into the air to raise the humidity, it sucks in room air, mixes it with moisture, and then shoots that AIR back out. It's incredible, and is so much more convenient for me placement-wise. Too, with my old humidifier, I was worried about breathing in impurities. There was always a white residue left on everything due to the minerals and chemicals in our water. This one has a filter and is supposed to capture a lot of that stuff. It does make a little noise, due to the fan, but it's not obnoxious. It sounds similar to a small tabletop fan. White noise. I dig it. TIP: If it seems like it's NOT raising the humidity, or the water level is not going down appropriately... soak the filter in water for a few minutes and try running it again. I had that issue and researched it. It has something to do with the room air being too dry, and the filter drying out faster than it needs to be in order to do its job. It's apparently not a defect of the humidifier, per the manufacturer. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don't know, but it works!! I have to do it every now and then. No biggie. I would definitely recommend this humidifier. UPDATE 05/2025: I am updating my review and knocking off a star. Regarding the filter drying out and having to soak it, periodically, for a few minutes... I previously said it was no biggie. Well, I changed my mind. It's annoying... so annoying.
