If you have a wider channel, it will handle a higher flow rate. You can get plastic valves from aquatic centres. I tried one initially but it was difficult to get a fine control of the flow. It is the same design and, once set up, works well. Would be a lot easier to set up if there was a plug attached, but not much of a problem as able to use the one on the original pump (points for forcing the recycling of the plug!). The flow is consistent after a few weeks of use. One observation when setting up is that it is worth taking the opportunity to dismantle the entire flow and ensure that there are no blockages while replacing the pump.
