I successfully mounted a 50 mm objective scope from a well-known scope mfg (famous for their warranty) and this height was perfect on my .308 bolt action. The objective end of the scope has about 1/2" clearance from the barrel. Good solid rings, instill a lot if confidence. I felt no need for and thread locker. I highly recommended. Review: Beware!Check fit and finish carefully - I have used many sets of Weaver rings over the years and never had any issues with any of them. These marked up my brand new score because of the poor machining on the lower mount only. The top pieces were fine. After noticing this i used a socket which was close to the same diameter with 600 grit wet/ dry sandpaper to remove the high spots which turned out to be only on both outer edges of each of the lower mount pieces. I notified Weaver, emailed them photos of the marks on the scope (is wasn't a Swarovski or Nightforce but it was still hundreds of dollars). Have not heard anything back from Weaver. If you're going to buy Weaver mounts, after my experience, I would recommend carefully checking fit and finish before using them. You do the math because it depends on your barrel profile (straight or taper) which will determine your clearance to your objective diameter. Good luck, I always get it as low as I can. Weaver 0 moa base. which height would have lowest clearancee?** A: I have 3 Remington 700s (long range, SPS tactical and ADL varmint) and all have 0 MOA EGW rails and weaver low 6 hole tactical rings with 50mm Vortex Viper 6-24 and 4.5- 22 Intrepid scopes. Clearance is not a problem with these longer scopes, even with the scope covers on. A shorter scope may require a higher ring.
