They are just like folded boxes - you can fold and unfold as you want. However, they are much sturdier with tape along the seams. I have a lot, but when I would try to pull one out they all came out and spilled onto the floor! I was going to get several book ends and place them strategically. But searching on Amazon gave me the idea of using magazine boxes! They are cardboard, but for the price I am willing to go with that. The cardboard is thin enough (yet sturdy enough) to not take up much room, and I expect they will last for years. (I have some older boxes that I have had for 10+ years, and they show use, for sure, but they are still functional!) They fold together at the bottom nicely and easily. The instructions are right there on the bottom of the box, right where you are looking while tucking the tabs. The thing I also love about the cardboard boxes is that you can get designs on them to liven up your space to suit your taste. The plastic ones just looked, well, boring and utilitarian (and they were more expensive).
