In Arboretum , you create carefully planned paths for your visitors to walk as they take in the colourful explosion of buds and leaves. The cheerful cherry blossom, the fragrant dogwood, the mighty oak – all have a place in this peaceful haven. But the tranquil setting belies the game's competitive heart. Players try to have the most points at the end of the game by creating beautiful garden paths for their visitors. 2-4 players Ages 8 and up 30 minutes play time Designed by Dan Cassar Gameplay The deck has 80 cards in ten different colours, with each colour featuring a different species of tree; each colour has cards numbered 1 through 8, and the number of colours used depends on the number of players. Players start with a hand of seven cards. On each turn, a player draws two cards (from the deck or one or more of the discard piles), lays a card on the table as part of her arboretum, then discards a card to her personal discard pile. When the deck is exhausted, players compare the cards that remain in their hands to determine who can score each colour. For each colour, the player with the highest value of cards in hand of that colour scores for a path of trees in her arboretum that begins and ends with that colour; a path is a orthogonally adjacent chain of cards with increasing values. For each card in a path that scores, the player earns one point; if the path consists solely of trees of the colour being scored, the player scores two points per card. If a player doesn't have the most value for a colour, she scores zero points for a path that begins and ends with that colour. Whoever has the most points wins. You must choose which cards to plant in your arboretum and which to keep in hand, as only the most expert curator will win the renown of nature enthusiasts everywhere!

**Q: How do you play this?  The description does not detail how the game is play.**
A: The game is a deck of tree cards, 10 types of trees, each labeled 1-8. Everyone starts with 7 cards, then take turns drawing a new card and then playing 1 card. Everyone is building their own grid of cards in front of them. The game ends when there are no more cards to draw. The score is then calculated. There is no quick way to explain the scoring system except to say that the final 7 cards in your hand determines how many points your grid of trees score. For a more detailed overview/review of the game, I recommend you search “arboretum shut up and sit down” on YouTube.

**Q: Sleeves size? Total card count?**
A: Cards are 2.25 x 3.5 inches. 80 Cards total.

**Q: Does this play well with 2 players or are their special 2 player rules?**
A: No special rules. My husband and I play 2-player games of Arboretum and it works well. Like any 2-player game, you're going more "head to head" in strategy than in a 3 or 4 person game, but the game remains elegant and fun.  It's also a bit shorter than a 3 or 4 person game.

**Q: How big is the box? It looks rectangular in photo but the measurements are square.**
A: Deluxe edition in the wood box is 8x6x2. 
Standard editions are in a small game box, large enough for 2 card decks side-by-side (about 4x6x2).
