Story ok. Quality of the drawings make characters barely recognizable.
First off, I LOVE the series “How to Train Your Dragon” - I have seen every movie and every episode from all of the Netflix series available.I was ecstatic to see this comic book that continue the series after the second film. That said, I understand that sometimes artists change during the production of these comics. However, this change is really horrible! My first picture is from the first novel (Serpent’s Heir), nicely done. Now, the second picture is the first few pictures of this comic book.Nice, right? The third and fourth picture are from the 2/4 of the book till the end. The characters are BARELY RECOGNIZABLE! I literally had to do a double take because I couldn’t even recognize Astrid!I seriously didn’t know who she was until I saw her clothes.Storywise, it’s ok. But I am pretty annoyed at the horrible quality of this drawings. Not something you would expect from Dreamworks.

I Would Recommend That You Don't Buy It
As noted in other reviews after page 16 a different artist is used and this second artist did a, shall I say, terrible job. Someone else posted a couple pictures of it and like me you might think "Oh, they probably just picked the two worst examples and most of it is probably not that bad". It is that bad, and even worse. Characters are barely recognizable, Toothless looks revolting instead of adorable, Hiccup looks 12 and deformed and Astrid... what did they do to you? I've seen a lot of fan art that looks a lot better.Story wise it's meh. A bit hard to follow, partially because of the art and for good measure they threw in a not so subtle political message at the end. As if that's what How to Train Your Dragon needs.

Really disappointed
We are just really disappointed in this book. We love How to Train Your Dragon, and were so let down by this. The art in most of it is really not that great. The first couple pages are quite nice, but the art goes on a pretty steady decline till the end. As much as I appreciative different art styles in comics, the characters have to actually look like themselves. Too many details were left out, and overall most of the art felt more than a bit rushed. I'm not sure where Hiccup's pared-down look came from, but the kids had trouble telling who it was supposed to be. They kept saying how he looked like he should be in a Star Wars book, and asking why he would take the armor off if he's going to fight. Which seemed like a fair point... The story was a bit disjointed, for the kids it was also confusing. I think the beginning threw them off, and they never got back on track. They've seen the movies, watched the cartoons, and read the other comics, yet there were so many questions of "why?" "what?" "I don't understand?" "who is that person?" "what are they doing? I can't tell" Overall it really wasn't an enjoyable read. We really wanted to like this, but I would honestly suggest picking up a different book. The other comics from this franchise are much better.

Not up to expected standard
Sadly I must agree with the majority of reviews. The story was "OK" but seemed somewhat disjointed. There are in fact two separate artists for this book, the first is credited through page 17 and the second finished it. As others have noted, the artwork is clearly delineated between them. The second artist is not a bad artist, but he certainly is not the ideal for this book and it shows. I have all of the previous Titan titles for the Riders and Defenders and the Serpent's Heir by Dark Horse. I hope this story is simply a stumble in the graphic novel line of HTTYD. Recommended only to complete the collection.

A great story for your child
(from 9yo daughter) When I first read it, it was exciting because there is a lot of character interaction and battles! There was a lot of detail in the pictures and it was really fun to read. There were a lot of DRAGONVINES!!! I really liked what they did with their weapons to help in the battle. The story had me on the edge of the couch wondering what might happen to the dragons, especially Toothless. I really recommend this book to all of the How to Train your Dragon fans!

Dragons, what's more to know
Kid liked it. Wish it was a little more wordy so she had more to actually read but it is a graphic novel after all.

Great next story on Httyd graphic novel.
I'm a huge HTTYD fan of the show and movies in the franchise. I got the comic book because the 3rd and Final film is almost there.

A good quality comic, worth buying!
This is a comic! It is not the same art style as the TV series or movie, be aware of this before you buy and then complain. The comic book itself has lovely quality paper and isn't flimsy, it is in full colour. And despite what other people have complained about, you CAN recognise the characters. It is about the length of one of the TV show episodes, its not a long read but its long enough.Over all 5* on quality and 5* on cotent. It is exactly as it is described, a kids comic book that us older fans can enjoy too!

Complete waste of money
Complete waste of money. My 11 year old is a massive “how to train your dragon fan”. She was so excited to get this book. It took her 30 minutes to read it and that was it. Complete waste of money. She has the book on Amazon’s kindle paper white and the illustrations are almost unrecognisable. I love amazon generally but this time they got it very wrong. Bitter disappointment.

Bitterly disappointment
I adore HTTYD, and these graphic novels are a bitter disappointment. Actually a little bit upsetting! I really don’t think much of the illustrations (Astrid’s face!), and the story is terrible. I flicked through it, and put it straight back in the box. The other one went in the bin.

Dragons everywhere
My boys love comics and love dragons. This was perfect for them both (6 and 8 yr olds). Just wish there were more available for kindle.
