I ordered this product from another online retailer (Vitacost) and in their cart it clearly states "This product will be shipped cold." It arrived with a strong ice pack. I called Vitacost and asked whose policy it was to do that. The rep told me that it is required by Now Foods to ship the probiotics with cold packs. Well, I wanted to confirm this and I just called Now Foods and spoke with the right department. The Now expert said that used to be their policy but about 3 years ago they changed their policy. The product does not need to be shipped cold at this time, however it needs to be refrigerated when you receive it. I don't like to have probiotics shipped to me in the intense summer heat, so he recommended buying enough product in the spring to last until the fall/winter and just store it in the refrigerator or even the freezer and it will keep its potency.I'm actually impressed that Vitacost ships the Now probiotics in cold packs. I am a bit concerned about Amazon warehouses because a couple of weeks ago a seller posted Amazon's seller guidelines that stated their warehouses can reach 100 degrees so supplements that cannot withstand that temperature should not be stored in Amazon's warehouses. So far I have had two, and I am liking them. This product I have only used a couple days now but I can tell you two things about it. When I eat a large portion of sugary things I get acid reflux that night. I've only done once so far while taking these but I can say I did not have the acid reflux. I would not have been looking for this had I not read it in another review. Also I have noticed that when I wake in the mornings I don't have as bad as I used to the awful taste in my mouth, I would assume it has probably lessened morning bad breath. I also bought a second different kind probiotic, that says it survives stomach acid, but it only just arrived. I thought I would take one of each at night & mornings, in hopes more get into my system. But I can say that at least some of this NOW had been getting into my system since I saw these improvements before the second brand bottle arrived. If these NOW continue to prevent acid reflux when I eat larger portions of sugary things I will be re-purchasing. (UPDATE: It's been about a week or so now, and I will be re-ordering this "NOW Probiotic-10, 50 Billion" product, as it has continued to stop the acid reflux. I did not buy it for this purpose, but it was a WONDERFUL surprising side effect. Also I don't give 5 stars in general, if I am happy with something I give it 4 stars max. But I 'am' upping this to 5 stars as has exceeded my expectations.) One last thing. From reading the reviews it is apparent you need to keep these refrigerated. Because of their sensitivity to heat I decided only to buy one bottle of each (instead of stocking up). But I am thinking the better time of year is winter to buy these, as they can sit in the summer heat in the mail box for a time or hours.
