Best of four language programs
I have purchased and worked my way through three other language programs, but keep coming back to the Pimsleur method. The great advantage of Pimsleur presentations is the timing intervals between when a word is introduced and when the programs asks me to recall the word. In the intervening time the program reviews other earlier words and sentences to which I have already been introduced. This timing is based upon scientific measurements of how long a new word can be remembered. The method works for me.One very pleasant discovery is that Pimsleur carefully introduces the pronunciation of each new word syllable by syllable, starting with the last syllable which is of course the easiest to recall! Again this method helps me to learn good pronunciation. Pimsleur also uses both male and female voices to repeat each word. The result of this technique is good pronunciation. Sometimes the pronunciation of certain letter combinations is strange to my English ear, but the program repetition causes my ear to eventually tune to correct speaking in a foreign language.I have used Pimsleur programs for two languages and do prefer this program method over others which I have encountered.

Enjoyable
I have been using Pimsleur's Ukrainian for about two weeks. I listen to it in the car on my way to work. I am currently on lesson #9. So far I am finding it very enjoyable and I look forward to working on it. I do repeat lessons, over and over, before I feel that I am ready to move on. I am actually learning a lot, and do seriously enjoy the lessons. I am pleased with the progress that I am making. Although others commented that they find the situations in the lessons to be unrealistic to them, I find them to be enjoyable. For example the lesson will say "Suppose you are a businessmen at a conference in Kiev and you want to talk to a Ukrainian women who you recognize from the conference, say "excuse me"." Although I do not plan to travel on business to Ukraine, I find the situations presented to be fun, and for me, make learning easier. Because I am an auditory learner, this program is a good fit for me, especially since the half hour lessons are easy to listen to while driving in the car.

Not great for average tourist. You’ll still need a phrase book.
What starts out as a very well done language program gets caught up in an unfortunate mashup of scenarios which are highly unlikely for the average tourist. Why on earth is 30% of this program stuck on asking someone to come back to your hotel? Also the numbers in this are entirely useless and not taught consecutively. You learn about wine and beer before learning the word for water. Also important things like how much is something or asking for help...completely skipped?Hopefully a better Ukrainian program will be made available soon.

pimsleur ukranian
be careful about buying things which are from'abroad'-I got stung for a customs charge on educational material -AND- and extra fee from the post office to collect the customs fee..added £13 to an item which cost £30..and hefty postage on top.but I could not source the item anywhere elseThe pimsleur method of language learning with endless repetition is necessary and effective when the language is a very different one;it certainly gets you speaking where say 'TEACH YOURSELF' tends to make me give up where so much dictionary searching is needed to make any progress;I wish the Learn in your Car series was more extensive

Great program!
I bought the Pimsleur Ukrainian program just a couple of months ago and it has really worked out well for me as far as learning the basics of Ukrainian. My boyfriend is Ukrainain, so fortunately for me I always ask him to correct me if I am pronouncing a word right or wrong(which you can't always tell in the audio). I had doubts at first because I spent over 5 years learning French in middle and high school and I barely know anything in French! Whenver using the CDs I have made a spreadsheet of the English word, and how to pronounce the Ukrainian word in the English alphabet. The only thing I wish this program came with is not only an audio CD but a visual CD to teach you the sounds of the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet, but I suppose just learning how to speak it is more important right now! I do highly recommend this program if you are really dedicated to learning a new language and especially Ukrainian since Rosetta Stone does not offer that language!

Good program to use while driving caught in rush hour or long distance drive or just around town! I use backup copies in car.
I am traveling to Ukraine and need to relearn and dump my russian wors and sounds!I had used a Pimsleur Russian program and attended classes for adults. I really think pimsleur hit the mark by teaching you the words from the ending sounds to the beginning! I found that during learning that the ending sound were always a problem! With Pimsleur I find my retention increases with the way program is set up.I would recommend this entry program to get around traveling. as you know these basic courses always lead to buying the full course. I have not looked lately.

I was speaking to my Great Aunt in Ukrainian in a short period of time
This learning technique is incredibly effective! I bought Rosetta Stone and couldn't learn using it as it was very difficult. For the cost of Pimsleur, you can't go wrong. I was speaking to my Great Aunt in Ukrainian in a short period of time. Pimsleur speaks the English word, then the Ukranian word, and breaks it down to help you learn the proper way to say it. For example - "proshu" means "you're welcome"; the program breaks it down - "shu... shu.... pro.... shu.... proshu". I would highly recommend this learning system to anyone. My 9 year daughter was even able to pick it up and learn from it.

Beginning lessons of Pimsleur Ukranian
I've only made it through 4 lessons, and I had to stop to try to write down the words. I felt that the guy and gal were almost using different letters sometimes, just due to their own intonations, and I wanted to know the spelling for each word. My goals are to read menus and other written signs too besides just hearing someone speak. So, the combination of this set of lessons PLUS a printed phrase book seems a great way for me to learn to understand and speak Urainian. I'll try to update this review when I've finished the lessons.

Very good for getting me to understand some basic Ukrainian
My mother's family are Ukrainian and I would hear my grandma and mother talking at times and did not understand it very well. Both my grandma and mother are deceased and I thought I would touch base with my roots. My father immigrated from Germany in 1929. He is also deceased. I listen to the Pimsleur Ukrainian Conversational course in my car. I think that I have learned a lot from it.

EASY
This product is absolutely amazing!! I have done 7 lessons to date and I remember every word they taught, or rather planted in my brain. I can easily remember, and when you think you may have forgotten a word or phase or whatever, they will remind you. Everything in Pimsleur was very well set-up. I will recommend Pimsleur to all my friends who want to learn another language. It's not at all related or crammed with grammar rules. They do tell you which word goes where compared to English but no great emphasis on grammar, the focus is learning, not repetition. This product is great for audio learners who need to hear for themselves in order to learn new things. This is no joke!!

Effective
Very good method for learning a language. The repetition helps to really stick key words and phrases in your head. Excellent for a beginner.
