Review: Excellent Ice Packs—and a Surprisingly Useful Second Purpose - I originally bought these ice packs to help reduce swelling following foot surgery, and they worked very well for that purpose. They freeze relatively quickly and remain cold for a reasonably long time before warming up during use. After I no longer needed them for their original medical purpose, however, I discovered an unexpected second use for them. I place one flat against the back of my backpack cooler and the other against the front. I still use a couple of frozen gel packs in the middle with the food and drinks, but these large ice packs significantly improve the cooler's ability to retain cold. I think of them as a sort of "sacrificial insulation." At the end of a long day, both of the large ice packs will be completely thawed, but the food and drinks between them are still ice cold. In other words, they seem to absorb a considerable amount of the heat that otherwise would have reached the contents of the cooler. I expect they would work equally well laid flat on top of the contents of a chest-type cooler. That second use has made these ice packs much more valuable to me than I originally expected. They performed very well for their intended purpose and then proved useful for something I had never considered when I bought them. I gave these five stars because they have provided an unexpected benefit completely beyond their intended purpose. They are useful, versatile, and have earned a permanent place in both my medical kit and my cooler.

Because they can be used as hot packs and cold packs, and because multiple packs are in a box, they can be used for alternating heat and cold -- which can be very effective for some types of healing.

**Q: Buyers who have had theres for a long time was wondering they hold up and don't tear?**
A: I've used two of mine nightly since I bought them a couple of months ago. No wear at all. I wash the one I used in mild soapy water and let it dry. Later, it goes into a 2-gallon ziplock bag before going into the freezer. The reason? If you're using a household freezer, remember that these packs were on your body ;) Also, the cover is soft and will absorb food odors. Washing and drying don't take long but I alternate the bags so I have a nicely frozen one when I need it just in case I didn't refreeze the one that was drying quickly enough. Oh! And make sure you lay them flat in the freezer in their bag. This way there aren't any lumps and it's moldable to the way you want ot use it. I have not used it yet as an ice pack. Maybe someone esle can speak to that part of it?

**Q: How long does it stay cold?**
A: They don’t get very cold at all and don’t stay cold but for maybe five minutes. The product is absolute rubbish, I would not buy again, or recommend.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Handy compresses that worked both hot and cold

These showed up with one leaking but aside from that they work really well for both hot and cold applications. They wont freeze solid and can get very hot fast. The gel allows flexibility giving them the ability to contour depending on the area you will be using them. When using cold, the small ones do not stay as cold as i would like so i "freeze" multiples and switch them out when needed.
