Great for ticks - okay for fleas
I purchased this specifically to deal with ticks, as they are a much bigger problem around here than fleas, and other drops just can't keep them away. At one point my dog didn't have a single flea, but I pulled over 100 tiny ticks off her over the course of a week! the Parastar doesn't seem to do a great job repelling insects, but it does kill them pretty quickly. I'm constantly looking at my dogs' skin so I notice right away when they get moving ticks and fleas - but so long as there is no 'flea dirt' and they aren't scratching like crazy I know the bugs haven't colonized! I've found many dead ticks, so it is doing what I want it to do.You do have to be religious about applications - right around the 30day mark I start noticing flea dirt appearing on my dog, which means it is not killing the fleas as quickly as needed, although the ticks i brush out are all dead and shriveled. I wish I didn't have to spread a poison over my dogs' skin every month, but it is better than them constantly itching!

Works great!
My vet recommended that we switch from Frontline to Parastar Plus, because it kills ticks quicker. We live in a high tick population area, and incidence of Lyme disease is very common and of concern to me. I have come in from my back yard this summer with ticks crawling on my legs. YUCK!!Since we have used Parastar on our Golden Retriever, we have not found any live ticks on him. We have found 3 dead ticks on him, none of them were imbedded in his skin, and they fell right off when we found them. Our Weimaraner, is still using up last year's supply of Frontline, and we have found 8 ticks on him. Two live ones, and 6 dead ones, and all of the dead ones had burrowed into his skin. So, we had "side by side" comparisons of the two flea/tick products. I am very impressed with the results we have had with the Parastar. Also, the container/dispenser is SO much easier to use than the Frontline. No struggling to get it out of the overwrap, and no spraying or dribbling all over the place. Just snip the tip and nothing comes out til you tip it and squeeze it on the dog.The only thing I don't like is that the "spot" it leaves is slightly sticky on our Golden Retriever's hair for a couple of days, but the increased peace of mind with the tick protection outweighs that small disadvantage. Also, we have noticed no ill health effects on either dog from the Frontline, or the Parastar.

Works well, at least up north
Can't say we never found a tick, but at least very, very rarely found an engorged one on our dog while using Parastar Plus., despite daily hikes in the woods in a heavily infested area. No fleas either, that is, until wintering in SC this year. On an incidental visit he vet noticed a few fleas and suggested that down south an oral product is needed for optimum effectiveness. 'Charlie' seemed less active than usual for several weeks after the oral product. Could be his age or the warmer temps, but we'll take no chances and go back to Parastar Plus when we head north.

I got my dog from the shelter a year ago ...
I got my dog from the shelter a year ago. They had been using ParaStar and it worked well against ticks. I recently ordered ParaStar Plus and 1) was sent Parastar (not plus) and 2) it is virtually not working at all. I am not finding dead ticks in his bed in the morning, I am find very swollen ticks attached to him. I just found one totally swollen larger than a pea and still alive in his bed. They are supposed to fall off and die before they fill up so large they release on their own.

The best flea and tick prevention
I use this product for flea and tick prevention. When I do find a tick on my dog it’s usually just crawling whereas before using this product the ticks were always latched onto his skin. Fleas are awful. If I do spot a flea it’s easier to comb them out as they don’t jump using this product. My veterinarian recommended this product a few years ago and it is the best one that I have used in my experience of flea and tick prevention.

Wonderful product.
I use this on both my labs. We live in an area with LOTS of ticks. Before I started using parastar plus I used other topical treatments and would find at least one tick a week on the dogs. Have used this product for two years now and have not found even ONE tick since (no fleas either). No issues with side effects. Wonderful product. As an FYI, my dogs are mid to high 80 lbs, so they are right in the border of this and the stronger dose. I always worry this lower dose won't be enough, but it always is. Love that I don't have to bump them up to more medicine to get good results.

Works as advertised
I've ordered this product a few times over the years. The product seems to work as intended. I only rated 4 stars because I've noticed that the production date is usually 1-2 years old while the same product at the mainstream pet stores are brand new. Also the box is usually a little beat up.

Great product!
We have a high tick population, and almost 100% of our deer ticks have lyme so preventatives like this are very important in Maine (at least our county). The ticks have become somewhat immune to frontline and k9 advantix. Parastar keeps the ticks off our dogs for more than a month so we don't even use the product on a regular basis...every couple of months or so seems to be perfect. My skin has been sensitive to both frontline and k9 in the past (rash/hives on my legs from the dogs sleeping under the covers); I haven't had any problems with parastar. Would highly recommend this product, but what works for my dogs in our area will not work the same for everyone else.
