Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you. See more

Great watch for a great price!
After reading through a number of reviews, positive, and not so much, I selected this watch based on it's basic appeal, and the back-up of having a digital display. This is a great watch! I like a watch which is a bit larger, but not huge. This is a very good size, with a real metal case, and a glass face. The metal appears to be of an alloy which will not easily tarnish. The mode buttons are clearly marked. We have a nice, large, sweep second hand, which revolves from the center of the dial rather than a small dial one must squint at to read. All of the features of a chronometer are within the digital functions, as well as date, room for two time zones, and laps. There is also an alarm function. I have had Indiglo watches before, and am very pleased to have one again. I find the face reads easily enough in low light conditions when waking in the middle of the night when my eyes aren't are sharp as usual, and no problem with reading the hands. In answer to some of the criticisms read, while yes, the digital display could be a bit more readable, for my purposes the analog does just fine. It does not back light with the Indiglo, but I find that if you are in a marginal light, you can tilt the face at an angle towards a light source, and the display stands out in sharp contrast. The instructions were a bit vague for myself, and the features could have been better described, but I think I am getting it! {Later I'm going to peruse the Internet for more tips on settings.} I would like to see the seconds visible when in the digital time function, rather than these only being seen during the setting process. Very small considerations such as precise locating of the second hand on the marks, more polishing needed on the case, are not appropriate for something in this price range. As a frequent traveler, I change time zones, and this is the reason for wanting a secondary digital display. I haven't synched the watch with UTC to get a precise reading yet, but so far this watch seems very accurate. I will probably have a later report. I will be able to recalculate when traveling anywhere. As a person who grew up before quartz movements were on the market, I very much like the look and feel of a traditional watch. To myself, this model is an excellent melding of considerations, with both analog and digital accuracy. I looked for several days, and found a bewildering plethora of fancy gizmodo, and sometimes frankly kind of weird looking, watches which do all kinds of things, some of them actually pretty cool, but not necessary for this persons particular style of adventures. I was looking, specifically, for an analog watch with a basic digital display, and these are lately scarce (I have one still from another manufacturer which is now a classic). I would encourage this manufacturer to continue to offer this watch, and others like this, in the same genre'. This is your basic fully functional chronometer, and I would not fear to go on any sane expedition with this timepiece.

Great Watch
I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of ("better") watches and this was the best of the bunch.Pros:It keeps good time. It runs about one minute off every three months. It's durable. I've accidentally knocked it hard against all kinds of objects, including rocks and metal. Not a scratch on the watch. The leather band is good. The picture doesn't do it justice. It's thick, strong and dries quickly. Some leather bands start to smell. I haven't experienced this problem with this band.Waterproof - I've had it pools, lakes and the ocean. No diving. No problems. It's easy to read and the dial lights up perfectly. It has T1 & T2 times that you can set an alarm by. I thought this was a useless feature until I started traveling across time zones. It came in handy and the alarm is loud.A lot of hard to find features in an analogue watch for a very good price.Cons:The digital portion of dial can be difficult to see in low light and when the hands cover it.The luminescent hands are pretty weak. They don't hold light very well.I really don't use the chronology portion of the watch, mostly because it is very difficult to use - Things I will never remember: Is it A,D,C,C,A,C,D,D to change to LAPS? Whatever, where's my phone? All told, I've had this watch for a few months now and I am very happy with it. It can do more than I need, looks good and it's very low maintenance.

Great multifunctional analog watch
The watch is great. The extra features that it has, for an analogue watch, make it very useful. It has a stop watch, timer, and 2 alarms. The analog display is easy to read. The digital display is not as easy to read because of the shade cast on it by being lower than the watch face but it is still readable and convenient because it says the date and makes the other functions possible. The watch hands and number squares are luminescent which not only looks cool but makes it possible to tell the time without turning the light on. It ticks loudly but that has made me able to find watches when I have lost them in my home in the past. The user interface for the alarm, stopwatch, and timer, is a little confusing at first but it is easy to use when one gets used to it. The second hand only lines up with the etches on the face every few cycles so it looks like it never lines up. Over all a great watch.

Way Too Difficult
Watch, at first, is fairly attractive. But setting very small digital "window" is awful to set and symbols are nearly impossible to read. Multiple buttoms on left and right are hard to press. Got this in December and still can't get it right. Instructions to set date and time are not very well written. Keeps time but that's about it. Would not buy another one.

Attractive but heavy
The watch is attractive and has most all the features I wanted in a watch, analog face, digital date, second hand, numbers on the face, "recessed" crystal to protect from scratching. The watch is easy to read. I replaced the band with an expansion band. Now the down side, for me at least. The watch is thick and heavy. I find all digital watches a pain to set, this one is no exception. If this watch were a little smaller, a lot thinner and a lot lighter it would be the perfect watch for a guy like me. I would have given it six, seven or eight stars were it that way. But, alas, it's impossible to find such a watch at any price much less under $100. I have looked on line at truely thousands of watches. They don't seem to make such a watch now. About 10- 15 years ago I bought two Regency watches that fit the bill perfectly. They cost about $65 each. Wore them every day. Great watches. Cannot find anything like them anymore. The Timex needs to be thinner and lighter, otherwise a great watch.

Very nice watch. Feels heavy but don't notice the weight ...
Timed expedition white with digital. Very nice watch. Feels heavy but don't notice the weight on the wrist. It has a loud tick on the bedside table, but again don't notice it on the wrist. Date set a default digital display. Non repeating countdown chrono, alarm and date functionality and readability are good. Strap us nice, even when wet... Only down is the strap is quite soft when trying to remove so the buckle pin does not easily come out... Otherwise very happy at 50 pounds, and recommend.Update June 2016. This is my everyday watch - it looks good and has good luminosity to read in the dark. The tick is really loud. The digital part is pretty useless - stiff buttons to work, hard to program and often has a watch hand in the way. Overall an OK watch but I'm sure there is better for the money.

Tolle Uhr
Fazit: klare Kaufempfehlung!
