There's actually more in the box than Amazon says.
I was super nervous about this purchase, but it's really a great product. Here's a few things to know:First, there's more stuff in the box than the Amazon info tells you. In addition to the fireplace itself, I also received: 1. A funnel to fill the fireplace--it might still be worth buying the longer funnel on Amazon, though, which I did. I prefer the longer size; 2. a hook to pull the sides closed if you need to; 3. ceramic wool to help the ethanol distribute well and burn longer--this can add up to 30% greater burn time. I didn't realize this was included, so I almost bought this separately to the tune of $25.00. The wool should last for a year or two, depending on how often you use the fireplace; and finally, 4. a mysterious long handled thing which I think is supposed to be a lighter. It clicks like a lighter, but it doesn't actually light, so I wasn't sure what to do with it. I used a long-handled fireplace match instead.Secondly, in the instructions, it says that you should have the fireplace on a flame-proof surface. That bummed me out a bit, because I wanted to use it in a specific place (on top of a bookcase) and I wasn't sure how to deal with this in an inexpensive way. I went to Home Depot and was able to buy one plank of ceramic flooring in a pretty stone color, which was only around $2.50. The 6 x 24 size plank worked great for the top of my bookcase (see picture). That said, because the top of this fireplace is elevated, we didn't find that it got hot underneath really at all, even after burning through nearly a half quart of fuel. It *does* get hot over the top of it, but the heat dissipated well before it reached my ceiling (I have 8.5 foot ceilings). The burn time is about 2.5 hours, which is perfect for us. If you want to burn it for longer, you have to wait until cools completely. Personally, I'm headed to bed afterward. I didn't want something that burned for longer (after which point I start to ignore it) and/or used a ton of fuel. The flames mostly yellow and dance in a very pretty way. So, overall, great product, and I'm really happy with it. There were no fumes from the ethanol whatsoever, which made me really happy. The ceramic wool does smell a little when the fire goes out, so if you're very, very concerned about fumes, you could use it without the wool. There's another, (cheaper) similar model sold by a different company, but I went with this one because 1) I prefer the fact that you can adjust the flame size; 2) I like that you cannot misplace the snuffer--it's built in; 3) I was hoping that ceramic wool might be included (and it was!); 4) I didn't want to cheap out on something that holds highly combustible fuel. This product feels heavy, stable and sturdy, though I certainly wouldn't carry it around while the fire is going, because the flames dance around and can reach a bit over the top of the glass. Now, here's what I think everyone who is reviewing this should be disclosing. I received a little card in the box saying that if I posted a review, they would send me 3 bottles of fuel. That's about a $30 value. I don't know if they still will, since I'm saying this publicly, but fair's fair, everyone should say if they're getting an incentive. I'll update to let people know if I still get the fuel, and how the product holds up. That said, I do think the positive reviews are totally legit overall, because I can't think of anything *not* to like about the fireplace, other than the price of the fuel, which you'll want to check out before buying. Figure that each fire will cost you around $2.50 or so, depending on whether you buy the fuel in bulk or not. It's more expensive than wood, for sure, but it's around the cost of those eco friendly, less polluting logs. Anyway, I'm super-happy that in our little condo we now have a nice little fireplace without the massive expense of putting in a chimney, etc. I think I'm going to put some tin panels on the wall behind it, just to highlight it a little more.Update: Well, they *did* send me the fuel, which is very nice. Here's a picture of the fireplace with the tin panel I got behind it (that was about $25, with shipping). I might finish the tin panel off with some trim--I think I'm basically creating my own fireplace surround, lol!

Impressive!
Once I saw pictures of indoor fireplaces I knew I had to have one. I love unique items and this is definitely cool. I began shopping for one and found that pricing varies from 35.00 to hundreds of dollars. There are many styles to choose from. I didn't want to buy a cheap one being worried about quality and safety, This model was mid-range but I have seen identical styles of this type priced 60.00 more than I paid for this one.The product arrived fast and was packed well and all parts were intact and scratch free. It even includes and electric torch which helps safely light the flame. All you need is to buy is a butane canister which isn't included. The quality and weight of the materials is excellent. The stainless reservoir and glass sides are SOLID. Even the 4 assembly screws are heavy and polished. This took 5 minutes to assemble. The main issue I had was finding the correct and SAFE fuel since this is on a living room table.I decided to buy SMART FUEL from Amazon. One of the only drawbacks of this type of fireplace is the price and availability of the fuel. I could only find it ONLINE and it is a bit pricey but if you buy in volume the cost comes way down. This type of fuel evaporates quickly so its recommended to not leave it in the fireplace unless you are going to burn it right away.Initially I read that some people have problems lighting this type of device. I also couldn't keep mine lit at first until I filled it to the full fill level indicated on the honeycomb screen. Do NOT fill it past this level, but i found that once I filled it to the line it lit and remained lit.Initially I used about 3/4 LITER to get it to this line.My first burn, when filled to max level with the top slider vents fully open lasted FIVE hours! The gates on top control the width of the flame but I left mine fully open. What a GREAT effect! Orange and yellow and purple flames dancing randomly. In addition, the fireplace raised my living room temperature THREE degrees while burning as well. I know there are different types and brands of fuel but the one I used left NO SOOT or smoke or burning odor. My friends are all impressed! The main issue is that this is a REAL FIRE and needs to be respected with all safety recommendations followed.I would not advise using in a house where kids or curious pets can get near it.Surprisingly, the metal and lower parts of g;ass remained relatively cool but obviously the FLAME part is HOT.My first burn did not scorch or stain the glass or metal. One last thing....please remove the warning stickers from the top slides before use or they will burn and possibly discolor the metal. I LOVE it!

I like the look & feel
I like the look & feel...it doesn’t seem as cheap as some of the others (not that it was as cheap as the others I was looking at), but my only complaint is that even after saturating the wick part with the suggested fuel, it doesn’t stay lit sometimes :/ even with no wind, using it indoors. Not sure what that’s about(?) also, it’d be nice if there was some way to tell when it’s 3/4 of the way full with fuel...I have no idea how to tell, & no idea how many ML/ OZ it holds, so I can’t even guess based off of how much of the girl bottle I use :/

Creates wonderful ambience!!
Very, very nice! My fireplace is in the family room in the lower level, so I do not have a fireplace in the living room upstairs. I put this one on my coffee table and it really adds warmth to that area. Love it]] Does use fuel quickly though which is why I only gave it a 4 rating. Very easy assembly and to get lit. Beware Exploding Glass When Over-fueled
I used this portable fireplace inside my actual fireplace, but on the fourth time, I filled the basin too full where the fuel could be seen on both sides of the wick (one full bottle of fuel is too much for the basin, FYI). Some of the fuel leaked onto the base of my real fireplace, which in the past had burnt up within seconds when I'd ignited it to eliminate small amounts. This time, the entire product ignited and burned into a roaring flame for about two minutes, continuing to escalate with no signs of subsiding on every surface of the basin. The tempered glass shattered and launched shards all over the room, but I squelched it with a fire extinguisher before the whole basin of fuel went wild. Not only would I be cautious of this particular product and its performance under excessive heat, as well as one's own inexperience (myself), be aware that a REAL DANGER exists with this type of portable fireplace concept overall.
