CanaKit Raspberry Pi 4 Basic Starter Kit with Official Case (1GB RAM)

I wanted a new Raspberry Pi ver 4B. Needed new case as a lot of the ports have changed locations. I found this one and it is just what I needed. Everything was there out of the box. Good starter kit for the new Pi. Everything worked when I built it up.

Canakit is a great company and this is a good buy. However, be aware that the Rasp 4 generates much more heat than prior models, enough so that either active cooling via a fan, or at a minimum, a heat conductive case, is needed. The thing hits thermal throttling very quickly under any load, otherwise.

While the Pi4 is awesome I think the CanaKit falls far short. First of all the case is poorly made fitting very loose and isn't secure when closed. It also doesn't have any holes or areas to allow for any airflow so just using the browser playing a youtube video for 10 minutes caused a heat alarm. The switch is a nice touch but it has limited practicality if you plan on integrating it into anything (a threaded through the hole would have been a better choice). I also would have preferred to have a std to micro HDMI adapter rather then a std to micro HDMI cable as you are pretty much stuck with the length. There are very limited choices to get a 4B now so CanaKit has a huge share of the market but as more choices come on the market unless changes are made they will be also-rans

Seems much faster then 3, wish I got more ram to run full desktop

as others have mentioned, this is probably the worst designed case I've seen yet. The Pi 4 knowingly has significantly more heat generation than previous versions, yet they provide a hot box with no vents. Frankly if they just provided a case with more airflow it would be fine without a fan, as i took the top off and the warning went away.Personally, I highly recommend a separate aluminum case. The ones sold here on Amazon mostly all include a fan as well if you want it, but they should work fine even without the fan since it's better designed to allow air through.Other than that, the device works far better. I replaced a Pi3 I had in the living room that was being used as a streaming / rdp device and it's far more capable and smooth. Now I can much more efficiently RDP into my downstairs system from the comfort of my living room, using a wireless mouse and keyboard basically "transport" my computer upstairs with me.

We used this to work on a motion detecting camera, works great!
