Start a new plant on bricks so the first leaves reach the surface, then lower the basket as the plant grows. **Q: When is the best time to plant water lilies in the UK?** A: April to July, once the water has begun to warm. Lilies planted in spring establish quickly and often flower the same summer. Autumn planting rarely produces flowers that year. **Q: Which water lily suits a small pond?** A: Pygmy varieties such as Nymphaea Pygmaea Rubra work in 30–40cm of water and spread under a metre. Vigorous lilies need 60cm or more and will swamp a small pond within two seasons. **Q: Where do pond iris go in a pond?** A: Pond iris are marginals. Plant them in an aquatic basket on the shelf with 0–15cm of water over the compost. Iris laevigata and versicolor flower from May to July. **Q: Will water lilies and pond iris survive winter?** A: Yes, as long as the crown sits below the ice line. Hardy lilies and pond iris die back in autumn and regrow from the rhizome each spring without needing to be lifted. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sc/products/147658211-lincsplants-1x-pot-luck-dwarf-pygmaea-water-lily-loose-root](https://www.desertcart.sc/products/147658211-lincsplants-1x-pot-luck-dwarf-pygmaea-water-lily-loose-root) --- *Product available on Desertcart Seychelles* *Store origin: SC* *Last updated: 2026-11-01*
