The screen does not go inside of the o-ring like the original does but all you have to do is tighten the mounting screw fully and everything works just the same. I did not use this with the original, pressurized portafilter so I would not recommend this unless you switch to a 51mm bottomless portafilter. I noticed a vastly improved pour through my bottomless portafilter with one smooth stream during extraction and a very even bed of coffee grounds forming a neat puck at the end. With the larger portafilter you can use the right amount of coffee for a shot, as well. You're not going to pull shots like your man-bunned-barista but you will certainly get more consistent results. This means you can focus on dosing and grind size rather than whether or not your getting consistent extraction through your grounds during the pull.
