The Bass Egg is a portable, rechargeable device that turns everyday objects into robust speaker systems. Unlike a traditional speaker, the Bass Egg has no speaker cone. Instead, it transduces vibrations into everyday objects, turning your world into a speaker. The bigger the object, the bigger the sound! A wood dining table... a cooler at the beach... the hood of your car... you name it! The result? Deep, rich, full-range sound.

Great speaker for the price and my needs....just might not be for everyone.
Speaker puts out some great sound for being small. I love the idea of how you can get a different sound by utilizing different surfaces (glass, metal, wood, etc). However, if you are expecting something super loud out of this, this is not the speaker for you. This is purely for personal use and not something you can crank up for parties (unless it is a party for two). I personally wanted something that I could clearly hear with a nice sound, as my laptop speakers just were not doing the trick. So this perfectly fits my needs. Why is it that I don't give it 5 stars? Well, I listen to some songs that have some bass to them (R&B and Rap). The speaker tends to rattle at higher volume when I play those songs. The rattle has nothing to do with the quality of the speaker. It has to do with the bottom of the speaker that puts out the "vibration". By this vibrating, it pushes up against on whatever surface and gives off that "bass". However, the more bass you have going, the more it just pushes it too hard thus giving it a distorted sound. You can push down on the top very lightly and it will actually fix the distortion. I would imagine that is why this unit is so heavy as to keep the unit from moving from the vibration. I have adjusted my equalizer to ease up on the bass, but then it just kind of waters down the song to a point that I might as just use my computer speakers again. So the only thing I can do for this type of music is listen at a lower volume. For most other types of music (Metal, Classical, Pop), really didn't notice any issues even when listening at higher volumes.By the way, the Bluetooth works excellent on this. I have no issues with it whatsoever when connecting from phone (Andriod - Motorola Ultra) or my Laptop (Windows 7 - Lenovo T410). And the battery life is also great when it is fully charged. I can usually get through my workday off of the one charge...as long as I am not being slaved away into doing OT. And if I have to do OT, I just plug it in and run off of that USB cord.I love this unit. Again, might not just be for everyone.

Glad I Bought It
The bass eggs works pretty well. My 23 year old son who is much more tech knowledgeable than me was impressed. I like not having to worry about blowing out the speakers, which is what happened to the bluetooth speaker I previously had. The bass egg does an okay job of handling the bass is music but it doesn't do as well with music that has very deep bass elements and it doesn't play as loudly as I might want at times without rattling but it's good for general use. It's not as good if you want to crank up the volume. My son says it does a pretty good job when you compare it with other similar speakers. I have found it works best on large, solid wooden structures. My kitchen counter is the best spot I've found downstairs so far with the chest of drawers has turned out to be the best spot upstairs. I've also found that the trunk being used as a coffee table (filled with stuff) is also a good spot. The directions that are included are extremely minimal. I like that they provide very quick start up but I'd like to have access to more information if I need it. There is this sticky stuff on the bottom of the bass egg. It's probably the same stuff you might find that adheres a new credit card to the paper when you receive it in the mail. There was no mention of it in the pamphlet that was included. I'm assuming that it is to keep the bass egg from sliding around when in use. I would have liked to have known that for sure.

New favorite portable speaker
Setting up was just a matter of seconds to get my music streaming through these little bad boys via bluetooth. It comes with a single cord that doubles as a charger and an audio connection with your audio device if you're going old-fashioned wire.First thing that I noticed was that the amplification due to the vibration of such a tiny unit was quite amazing. Secondly, although it's capable of producing bass sounds that you won't hear out of most portable speakers, the quality of the bass sound really depends on what kind of surface you place it on. If I put it on my wooden coffee table, the bass is very hollow and does not resonate well. When placed on my upright piano, the amplification of the mid-range is amazing, though the bass is still lacking. I've found that placing it on top of my audio workstation desk gives the most punchy, solid bass and balanced output when considering the overall sound. The sound quality of the higher ranges isn't much to rave about. Do not expect warm mid-range and crystal-clear high frequencies just like you might from a set of Bose speakers, because the focus with these seem to have been more on reproducing strong bass.I'm more picky about the lower frequencies when it comes to sound, so this definitely did the job for me, but it definitely has a ways to go in terms of improving on the mid / treble. Also, if you're planning on placing them on a surface that's shared with other items, there is a possibility that they may rattle due to the vibration, which is what I experienced when placing it on my coffee table alongside the remotes and a wine bottle :P But part of the fun of these speakers is experimenting with the sound that you get from various platforms, and if you plan on buying it for the same purpose as me, which is for taking it to travel destinations, you probably won't get bored of these speakers for a while.
