**Q: With a small shelf exactly 6" wide I am concerned that that the basket, made of natural materials, if it is even slightly wider 1/8" it will not fit.**

This basket/box is hand woven and you have to accept a little bit of tolerance. Hence I agree with you and would not run the risk.
