The magnetic base is plenty strong to keep it in position for accurate measurements and comes with a well made protective storage case to keep it in good condition for along time. You cant go cheap on precision instruments like this. However this one is priced very affordable and you wont be disappointed in the quality of product your getting making it a great value ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Now I Can Look For Another Drill Press *by on Reviewed in the United States July 26, 2025* I used the Fowler Dial Indicator with magnetic base to check the runout on my roommate's drill press. I used it to detect runout on a large drill bit to determine how much my drilled holes would be off. I used the measurement to determine that I needed to get a replacement chuck - one that was not so worn out. After the new chuck was installed, the run out now reads 0.005. That's better than the 0.010 where it started. I would also replace the spindle because the taper was also damaged. THAT part is no longer available. My Fowler Dial Indicator is a very useful tool. The magnet grabbed the drill press drilling table very solidly. Once I figured out how to set it up, it was easy to use. The price was very affordable and it's the right size for what I'm trying to do.
