Very warm and wind proof hat
Very warm hat and it has keep my head warm in some hostile conditions. The fit is designed to be a bit snug so no cold air can blow up under the hat. That said I was a bit worried at first as the hat fit pretty tight but it did stretch out a bit after a couple of uses.I have worn the hat in 60mph winds and -20 F wind chill conditions and my head stayed nice and warm. This hat I use on really cold and windy days way up here in the North country and it would probably be too warm to use in conditions around the freezing mark. With washing the hat twice last season and air drying the hat - it still looks brand new.As a side note this is the hat used in the film Bourne Legacy during the climbing scenes; although, the hat has been through a modest redesign from that model.

A warm wind breaker
I've always been a small/medium hat size, however this size did not fit me well. It was so tight and the ear "flaps" did not cover my ears at all. I had to go to a Large/XL and then it was a bit loose unfortunately. I have a polyester/spandex hat liner that I put on underneath of it to make it fit perfectly. The ear "flaps" cover my whole ears and I don't seem to have a problem with them while outside in the wind and cold. They obviously aren't super long or able to wrap around your ear so there will inevitably let some breeze underneath. However - these do an exceptional job at keeping your ears warmer and away from wind then the traditional beanie, and the styling of them is a great compromise. I would recommend this for a light winter beanie - you'll want something a bit thicker when you start getting down below zero or if you're in constant high winds.

OR windwarrior hat
I typically wear a size 7 1/8 hat, which is what a small-medium is supposed to fit (see sizing chart). However, this hat could barely fit a toddler. Not only was it way tight around my head, it barely covered the top of my head. I immediately returned it for an exchange of a large/xl. Hopefully that size will work.Update: 1/14/13...the L/XL does fit perfect; definitely fit size is smaller than advertised. The return was very quick and I really like the new hat.

GREAT FIT, Nice Hat
This hat fits my rather large melon!(My Motorcycle and bike helmets are all XXL.)Seems well made and looks goofy on me which I like.Fit is snug and I figure if I need more warmth I can just add another hat. Looking forward to wearing it this winter in my Adirondack playground!!!

unusual fit
Based on other reviews I ordered the L/XL. This fit my head ok, but left some excess material that bunched up and made the hat look awkward when I wore it. I ended up returning this purchase. I don't think the smaller size would fit my head.

Nice looking, but . . . .
I'm an all season bicycle commuter from the Great Plains region. It can get very windy where I live and, as such, requires that I have some sort of wind protection in addition to the normal insulation that I wear on my head during my winter commutes. Before this hat, I didn't own one that also stopped the wind and, therefore, simply layered a couple hats -- a thin merino wool beanie and a cheapie 99 cent knit from Wal-Mart -- on my head. I thought that this hat would be the perfect fix for me: it blocks wind, it insulates, and it looks pretty jazzy. Unfortunately, the Outdoor Research Wind Warrior hat will not "snug" around my ears tight enough so that a seal is created. As the result, all sorts of cold air leakage occurs. It's pretty disappointing, especially considering the reputation that OR has for making some of the best performance headgear money can buy and also considering the fact that the Wind Warrior hat was sold to me as a product that would not only keep my head warm, but ears too. While there is a smaller size available that might fix this issue for me, I'm reluctant to make an exchange since the size I have already, as an entire piece, is nice and snug. So, I'm back to where I started by wearing the Wind Warrior hat. I guess it's still a cut above, in terms of fashion, than the pilling cheapie that I was sporting on my noggin' before.
