Coleman Multi-Purpose Lantern Stand

Out of the box I can immediately tell I'm going to be uber-glad I bought this for our upcoming camping trip. Having never used a stand for a lantern, I can tell you that sometimes having a low lantern (such as on a table) can create limited lighting. Since not every camp site has trees with branches from which to hang a light, buying a stand was something I considered to be an investment. I don't have a portable camp kitchen and currently my mode of transportation is a small sedan, so portability is a key issue for me and I need something near my cooking station for meal prep at night. The cost is fantastic. The stand folds up easily, is very compact and lightweight yet sturdy, and the telescoping shaft creates the perfect amount of height for ideal light coverage in various situations. I will be using this outside and then bring it into our tent when we settle down for the night so having the ability to customize the height is a great asset. The trip-pod base is really wide so is quite sturdy but it comes with stakes to help secure it even more. The only drawback with the spread of the stand legs might be someone tripping over them...but you know...just keep an eye out.The only thing I wish came with this stand are holes into which one can attach arms to hold/hang items such as dish towels or a roll of paper towels, a basket or a bag, etc., (specifically for use in proximity to my cooking station), but that type of feature would make this much more expensive. So to that end I purchased separate items (different manufacturer) that are designed specifically for attaching easily to poles or tree branches. The minor extra cost of the additional items gave me the exact tool I need for my camp cooking/lighting purposes.This is definitely worth the purchase.EDIT: After a week of camping this product performed EXACTLY as I needed it to. It was handy and easily portable...I was able to move it to wherever I needed to have it and it stores nicely in its carrying case. This was easily the best purchase I made for our camping trip! The only minor complaint I have its stakes bent the first time we used them to the point of being unusable.

For the money this is the answer if you are tired of finding a place to put your lantern that is close enough to where you are sitting yet not on the table blasting light in your eyes. Mobile. Light. Adjustable in height. Stable. Perfect.When I am eating I can bring one near me If I need more light. When I am using my pop up privy to shower I can bring it over for more light if I need it. The benefits/uses are endless.I cannot imagine how this could collapse unless you have a defective unit OR you are too much of a wuss to twist the tubes and tighten them. Honestly it only takes a couple of pounds of torque on mine and there is just no way its going to "slip" or collapse...I tried to make it slip/collapse and honestly I could feel the legs flexing but the poles stayed at the height I had set them at.In a strong breeze and soft soil I could see it tipping over. Get longer stakes OR use a sandbag at the base and secure the center pole (at the base) to the sandbag with some twine, para cord, etc. If you go the sandbag route you can ditch the stakes and just keep the empty sand bag and string in the case for the stand...then you don't need a hammer or a rock to pound the stakes in the ground.Wish it was a bit shorter when collapsed (around 36") but other than that its just so dang handy. Bought 2, considering another.

I am not often impressed with a product but I was with this. I was expecting a decent but not great stand to hang the lantern but this thing is very well constructed. It would take an crazy wind to blow this thing over yet it is lightweight and compact and has its own carrying case. Got this to hold my LED lantern very high so that I could work around the camp site at night with out having to carry the lantern the total time. Putting it on a table tended to put the beam of the lantern where you were blinded in the dark when looking in the direction of the lantern. this stand hold the lantern about 7 feet in the air which allows the lantern to light up the area with out blinding you at night. I bought that Coleman CPX6 1000 LED lantern and combined with this stand it lights of the area very good.

I used this with the  Coleman Northstar Propane Lantern with Case  and it was brilliant. Easy to use and sturdy. It felt very flimsy at first, and I was extremely reticent about hooking on a propane lantern in case it fell and started a fire, but I had nothing to worry about. I used the three tent pegs it comes with to attach it firmly to the ground, put the lantern on and hoisted it to the max height. Perfect stand for pitching a tent at night. Also used it for cooking around the campfire. Game changer when there are no trees nearby.

I love using the Coleman Lantern Stand! Before I purchased this stand, I had to rely on trees to attach lanterns to...which sometimes worked out...but usually did not as they were not in a "convenient" location or there were no trees around! The Lantern Stand is sturdy for what it is designed for...but you will probably want to use the tent stakes to better stabilize the stand.Pros: Can be used anywhere Adjustable Heighth - this is handy as you can lower the top and use it as a reading light at night Small - you can pack this stand anywhereCons: Cheap tent stakes - I purchased the heavy duty  Coleman 10-Inch Steel Tent Stakes since the ones that come with the product are very cheap and bend very easily Stand base is not horizontal, so tent stakes have to go into ground at an angle (the only reason I gave it 4 stars).I would recommend this product for any camper. It is sturdy for what it is designed for.

I just received my Coleman lantern stand and even though I doubted what the write up said, it is exactly what it says it is. It absolutely wonderful, I love it already and I haven't even gone camping yet. I can't wait to use it. I originally bought it to hang a solar shower from it but now I've changed my mind about that. It's super easy to open up and really offers you the perfect height to hang a lantern for cooking or playing games. I've played around with it in my home to test it out for different uses. I wasn't disappointed and for the price I find it's very good value. I'll try to update after testing it out on my camping trip next month.

I just got back from a week long camping trip and I’m really glad that I bought this product, as it worked perfectly!!It was great to get my Coleman lantern off the picnic table at eye view, and hang it at over 2metres. Our whole campsite was lite up!!Love it!
