These are "cheap" tables. We cut a hole in ours & the inside is twisted spirals of cardboard. BUT -- they do not cost much AND they are sturdy with weight on them. Why did we cut a hole in our end tables?? Well. Long story. We bought Bose Stadium speakers (back in 1973, series 901). Then we replaced them with new Bose 901's. They have Pedestals that support the speakers & the wires go up thru the pedestal into the bottom of the speakers. We have cats. They like to jump on everything. One cat weighs 12 pounds & is very athletic. We know they will use the speakers to jump from & to land on. And when we tried using the pedestal bases............the cats tipped them over! Not good! Pointy heavy speakers headed for the TV or the window or the barrister bookcase OR the cat!! You get the idea. SOOO. What to do? Need a stable base that looks good enough for the living room that the cats cannot tip over. End table. BUT wires must come up thru the table to the bottom of the speaker so .......don;t want expensive end tables. Taa Daa. Dorel Home Products Parsons End Tables. Less than $20 each. Easy to assemble, easy to circle drill through, look good, hold the speakers solidly (35 pounds) AND..........cats can run & jump & sit & groom & nothing tips over. Now........do not push these tables from the side -- they are sturdy with vertical pressure but you cannot torque them side-to-side . The legs are simple screw-ins & will not withstand being wiggled very much. For our rather unusual useage needs --they are ideal. As near as I can tell, it is made from some sort of compressed cardboard, with a faux wood laminate on the outer surfaces. That said, it is a very nice little table for the price. I paid around $17, and I recommend holding out for that price (it seems to fluctuate, but usually returns to around $17).The table is very light, but seems sturdy. The faux wood finish is nice enough that it might pass for the real thing if you weren't looking too closely. Assembly is super-easy. You get a table top with a hole on the bottom of each corner, and 4 legs, each with a big screw on top. 5 minutes tops to put it together.I have two of these, one on each side of a pair of Ikea chairs, and they are just right to hold books, your drink, or whatever else you want handy while you're relaxing. Overall it looks nice, it is pretty sturdy, and it is really simple to put together...like one step easy. However, there were a few issues that you should be aware of.1. DO NOT over-tighten legs, if you do the whole wood "coating" will rip and tear from the corners and legs.2. The table is not a solid piece of particle board. It feels like that honeycomb cardboard inside the top portion.I would have liked to see a color in between blonde and espresso but that is just personal preference.
