There is almost no release of radioactive material during arcing, so the only real issue is during preparation / grinding. We recommend the use of a dedicated grindstone on a grinder that has dust extraction capabilities. As with any tungsten grinding we also recommend the use of a simple filter mask and eye protection. Past that, we offer free samples of non-radioactive options that might be worth testing in any current welding application currently using Thoriated tungsten. **Q: "Are they as stiff or springy as piano wire? I want to make a wing wire for my r/c Race car"** A: All tungsten electrodes are very hard and stiff. They do not bend without a lot of heat, they just break. It does however take a lot of effort to break them.
