## Description

From the manufacturer

Review: Amazing - Cannot recommend these enough, they are fantastic. We bought an old house and found that with a single thermostat downstairs the rooms upstairs would frequently be at a significant differential from the thermostat, too cold or too hot. These things solve the problem beautifully, I can now set the temperature individually for every room, turn off heat in rooms that aren't being used and have customised schedules for all of them. There are some gotchas that can catch you out: 1) In the app if a valve shows that it's below it's target it will show the heating icon which indicates that it's requesting heat, however despite this if the current temperature isn't more than 0.5 below the target the main thermostat won't actually activate. This confused me for the best part of 2 hours, I went through many resets of all the hive devices trying to solve a problem that didn't really exist. It's very silly that it indicates that the valve is requesting heat when it really isn't, hopefully they will fix this at some point. 2) After initially installing them they need some time to calibrate and may not activate when it looks like they should. I found that deliberately setting them to high and low temperatures to trigger the activation helps to speed this along. I think for the first few nights they will open/close slower than they are able to as part of the calibration cycle. TL;DR if you think they're not working but the app reports everything is fine, it probably is fine, just leave it for a bit. Also I've noticed sometimes it looks like it should be heating one of the radiators but isn't, but if you touch the radiator it's already hot. I guess there must be some energy-saving duty cycle to avoid running the boiler continuously unnecessarily. 3) Leave at least a couple of radiators without these so water can flow freely. The bathroom and hallway are ideal candidates for no smart valve. Then just set the hallway manual valve to roughly halfway so that whenever any of the other radiators demand heat the hallway gets 50%. I've found this works really well. Home Assistant is also worth using as it lets you monitor all the smart stuff in the house and create automations based on events etc, and get access to all of the sensor data. These things are worth their weight in gold, I wish I'd got them sooner. Pretty sure they will pay for themselves over time too with all the insights into the system that I'm getting from the data coming off them, and the ability to not heat unused rooms. Being able to actually have the whole house be at the same temperature is so wonderful though and it's worth buying them just for that alone.
Review: Perfect to control each radiator the way you want - I live in a 3 bed house and decided that while the kids are off to university to fit these valves to all of our radiators. Now, I'm not technical in the least with this stuff but if I can fit them and setup then definitely anybody can. Initially I only bought a few as they are not cheap but I did wait for deal time before purchasing them. Now the great thing about these is that where ever you fit a valve, you can essentially own everything about that radiator. You can put whatever heat programme you want. After initially buying a few of them, I ended up putting them on every radiator. The fitting is simple, your old valve screws off. This valve comes with 2 fitments, they will then fit straight on to your radiator. Before placing them on the radiator, you will need to insert the 2 AA batteries (supplied) in to them and then once placed (can be vertical or horizontal) you pair it with the Hive app. It's important to note in the app whether is placed vertically or horizonally. Follow the pairing instructions and after a few mins you're good to go. It really is as simple as that and then you can configure that valve till your heart is content. You can even had that radiator switch the boiler on just to heat it (called Heat on Demand) which we have set for just a few radiators in the house since not all of them are being used. I have had them installed for a year now and not had any problems yet.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you need to install one on every radiator in your home?**
A: Yes if you want complete control of your system. There is only one exception and that is the room where the Hive Thermostat is located. We installed nine of them over the past couple of weeks and the system is now operational. We still have two towel rails to convert. We did need to employ a plumber to change some of the valves which could not be converted using the kit Hive supply. A trip to Screwfix got us the appropriate valves. It is a worthwhile adventure.

**Q: Hello, does this product light up? (Dont want bright light in baby room) thanks**
A: No, unless you press the button to check the temp it is set to and even then it is very minor

**Q: I fitted the valve to the wrong adaptor(the bigger one instead of the small one). I am trying to remove it but it only goes round and round and it doe**
A: Look on YouTube to remove Hive TRV, basically you need to press the release tab as you turn the TRV anticlockwise to remove from radiator, the adaptor should then come off.

**Q: Doesnt this include the TRV valve adapters as my rads currently are not trvs?**
A: These are Trv heads that fit on a Trv body, the adaptors included are only to enable the heads to fit on several makes of Trv body. If you have an old style radiator valve that is not Trv then it has to be replaced.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ They Work
*by K***S on 9 December 2020*

I have Hive heating control so decided to buy a number of these and fit round the house. Idea being that during lockdown I didn't want to heat the whole house while working from home, as only the few rooms I needed. Do they work - yes they do. Fairly easy to set up individual schedules for each room in the house and the heat boost is a useful feature. Battery life is unknown at this point but they are 2 AA batteries per valve so no problem to replace. Ease of install - Following the instructions through the Hive app was simple and all fitted without issue. Little tricky to remove as the collar is hard to grip once installed. Calibration of the valves was a faff as needed to haver the heating on to complete, but once done no issues. Range of Signal - 1 room proved to be a problem and the valve kept on dropping off line. Moved it and the valve works fine so must be the signal. Hopefully a Hive range extender will solve. Overall pleased with them as they do what I need. Only downside is the price as doing multiple rooms the cost soon builds up - saying that I only bought them when on offer, not full price.
