It seems to work, at least the Mate 3 gives an intelligible reading in Celsius, but it gives a code on the charge controller.  I accidentally stuck it on top of the battery and can't get it off to put on the side.

I was helping my friend re-battery his Outback solar system and I figured the tape on the old sensor would be shot so rather than try to figure out what kind of tape I needed that would stick well enough and not be a thermal isolator, I just purchased an entirely new sensor.  Having the controller know the battery temp seems very important to keeping the batteries in good shape long term.
