It is absolutely lovely. **Q: How well would this work for clothing? Like a Medieval monk costume?** A: I think it would work very well. It's heavy fabric. You could always dye it the color you need it to be. **Q: Does it shrink when washed?** A: I have not washed this muslin as it was not necessary for my intended application. However, most 100% cotton fabric will shrink when washed and dried. **Q: Is this good for making costume period undergarments?** A: Yes. It is a light weight natural cotton and should be comfortable. However, there is a LOT of shrinkage. Be sure to wash in hot water and iron before cutting out your pattern pieces. Be aware that linen, not cotton, was the fabric most likely to be used as undergarments from the medieval period into 18th centuries. Cotton would be imported. I washed it in cool water and dried it on low. It did shrink (measured 60" wide when received and 55" wide when dried). I purchased it to make large side tied aprons. I don't think I would hesitate to line a quilt with this (as others mentioned they do), but I don't think I would use to piece with. I will purchase again as needed. Amazon delivery was terrible, however.
