Nice Shaver ,but Oh that Smart Clean System
This Norelco 8950/90 is an exceptional razor. With a little care in how it is used one can get a shave ,in my opinion , as close as with a blade razor.I have been using Norelco for many years with short breaks using a blade or Braun. But always came back to Norelco. Prior to this one, I owned and used a 1250/40 ,essentially the previous generation of the current Norelco models. Like many other men who wrote reviews ,I was upset with the change in shaverhead/blade design Norelco implemented about 18 months or 2 years ago. That led to another flirtation with Braun but it did not last, and I went back to the 1250. This 8950 is everything the 1250 was and probably a little more. It is quiet, plenty of shaving power, provides a very close and comfortable shave . To get the really close shave I mentioned above you will need to take the time to go over some areas more than one time, and using a circular motion is essential while keeping the head fully touching your skin but without any significant pressure. Do that ,and take your time and you will be rewarded with a close ,comfortable shave. If you have any old Norelcos' around like I did here are some things to consider. The charging connection on the shaver is identical to the connection of the previous generation. So The cord that you were using to plug into your charging stand will also work with both the shaver and charging stand of the 8950. Voila ,you have a spare charging cord. Also this shaver is shaped similar to the previous generation. That means that your old charging stand will work very well as a stand for your 8950 on the bathroom counter. Finally your travel case for your old shaver will also work for this one ,again ,a made to orderspare.I am not a fan of the Smart Clean system. I think every shaver model should have a with/without price for those of us that are just fine with manual cleaning The system is large and bulky, certainly nothing one would leave on the bathroom counter on a permanent basis. Sitting on the counter it kind of looks like a futuristic death ray gun that you might see in some space movie. My wife looked at it and said something to the effect that I could never again complain about her cosmetics taking up to much room on the BR counter..That prompted me to put the cleaning system on a high out of the way shelf in a very dark closet where one of my kids will find it long after I am gone.Buy the 8950 , I think you will like it and feel it is a good value .

Where have you been all my life?!
After shaving with razors for my entire adult life, I cannot believe what I have been missing all this time. This thing is absolutely AMAZING. No more cuts, no more razor burn, no more dry skin, no more ingrown hairs, no more shaving cream, and especially no more expensive razor heads that have varying quality throughout their lifespan...Shaving with this thing was ridiculously simple - on my first try, it looked like I was still using a razor. Actually, this was better than a razor, since my biggest problems with using razors is getting cut and bleeding forever (this problem was eliminated entirely) and getting dry skin (dry skin problem was reduced by about 80% by using this electric shaver instead of a razor).Bonuses include a) waterproof, b) easy to clean, c) self-cleaning charger station, d) nice case for when I travel for work. This is definitely a 5 star electric shaver. I am so damned happy I got it. If you're considering switching from razors to electric, stop right here and get this one. You will not be sorry.

Pretty good razor.
Years ago, my first electric razor was a Norelco. It wasn't that great. So I switched over to Braun shavers which are really good. In fact, been with them for almost two decades. Well this one was on special and had pretty good reviews but still skeptical since most were from people who had received it for free to test it. At first seemed cheap cause it is pretty light and doesn't seem to have much substance but that turned out to be a pro cause it makes it easy to maneuver. Also does a better shave than my Braun 5 series. I love the heads which does a great contour on my face. Only cons I have is that price could be a bit better, don't like I have to change out the top to get the clipper usage, and little hassle getting it in and out of the charging base. All the things the Braun shavers have an advantage of. But overall pretty good razor definitely recommend.

Great Electric Shave
This is a very good electric shaver. The self cleaning is a great feature to have. The trimmer attachment’s adjustability is a really nice feature for getting the trim just right

Easy on the face and easy to clean, just make sure to use circular motions
Like the 9000 Series shaver this has some nice features that aren’t found on the less expensive models and once you’ve used one of these it’s easy to understand why sometimes it’s better to spend just a little more.TL;DR – Nice close shave with no razer burn. Shaver head is thin enough to get the area under the nose clean. Long lasting charge and easy to clean foils. There’s just a lot to like about Philips shavers but the one that stands out for me is their ability to give me a good shave without a hassle or razer burn. The triple foil heads have so far done an excellent job for me. There is one important item to make note of here, when using a triple head shaver do not go back and forward, up and down. You need to run these things in a circular motion to get the best shave. This way the foils can get rid of a lot more hair for every pass you make. When looking at the foils it’s obvious why they get so much hair in one pass, they’re littered with tiny laser cut "S" shaped slots which allow the hairs to slide through easier so the blades can trim them. On lower models the foils have far fewer of these slots. I found that they catch even the shortest stubble. The included edger does a nice job of trimming the hairs around my ears and side burns. It’s not a real bear trimmer as there's only three length settings on the included comb.As it’s a wet or dry shaver I find that, depending on how my face feels (you just know it’s going to be a bad shaving day) I’ve used shaving cream to help reduce the lowlihood of a burn happening. The only real difference when doing this compared to dry shaving is that the shaver head needs a good rinsing whereas without cream all it takes is to pop open the head and tap the hairs out. Please don’t do the typical guy thing and hurry to use the shaver. Plug it in and get the battery fully charged before using the first time. The first charge took about an hour which is pretty much how long it takes to go from drained to fully charged. Also spend 5 minutes going through the well laid out manual, it’s worth it and only a few pages with pictures. The shaver has been designed for wet or dry use so taking it into the shower isn’t a problem. Personally I'd rather shave in front of a mirror so I never tried it with water other than rinsing it in the sink. An item to note here, it very clearly states in the manual to NOT use the shaver in the shower when plugged into the charger but then we already know it’s a bad idea to use a toaster in the tub.Cleaning stationUsing the cleaning station is pretty much fool proof. I appreciate its simplicity, place the shaver in the holder (front side to the back) then push down on the cap to lock the shaver and push the power button. The rest is all automatic and it powers off when completed. While cleaning it also charges the shaver battery. Once the cleaning part of the procedure is complete it runs a drying phase which takes about 4 hours. There’s nothing to dislike about this as you get a clean shiny well running shaver head after every cleaning. The only thing you'll need to purchase in the future are the cleaning cartridges, they should be replaced every 3 months according to the manual. They are available here on Amazon, search "Philips SmartClean Cleaning Cartridge ". With my other shavers, I’ve found that if I make sure to give the shaver head a good warm water rinse at least once a week I don’t have to run the cleaning station anywhere near as often which saves me money by not buying the cartridges. This thing runs quiet, I could shave in the bedroom and not wake my wife. It’s not a heavy device which makes manoeuvring it easy. Everything fits together perfectly. The charger here is the same as other current Philips devices, shavers and beard trimmers. This means being able to have and leave chargers in different locations (cottage) even when using multiple devices. There are some nice features like a power switch lock (push and hold for 7 seconds to activate or deactivate) that are all nicely explained in the manual and yes, there are pictures for these items as well guys.

Excellent produit
