Outstanding
This inline fan was the perfect solution for our bathroom. It is quiet and moves the air very well. Now, when someone takes a hot shower, the mirror doesn't even fog up at all. It definitely beats any of the fans you will find in the big box stores.I wanted to vent out the gable end of our attic (not through the soffit or through the wall). This fan allowed me to accomplish that with only having a single bend in the duct. A ceiling mounted fan would have required several bends to make it up over the joists and head toward the gable, not to mention cutting a 12"+ hole in the ceiling. A wall mounted fan would have required me to cut a 10"+ hole in the wall and through the side of my house, plus it would have left space near the ceiling for moisture to accumulate. This fan only required me to cut a 4 in hold in the bathroom ceiling and in the outside wall. It was easy to install and I recommend purchasing the accessory grill and damper kit. It's a bit expensive, but dresses it up nicely.

Great Exhaust Fan!
I love this exhaust fan! I bought this to replace an older Broan 50 cfm bathroom exhaust fan in an upstairs bathroom. I have two daughters who both believe it is their job to take as hot and long shower as possible until all the hot water in the house has been depleted! After either of them showers the steam in the bathroom is so thick that water literally dripped down the walls, and if they left the bathroom door open the steam would activate the smoke detector which is in the hall just outside the bathroom. I purchased the Panasonic in-line fan and attached it to an AIRTEC vent and I could not believe the difference. Now after they shower the walls are completely dry, and no more smoke detector activation! This product works beautifully. Because it is remotely mounted there is no motor noise, but because it moves such a large volume of air there is noise as the air moves through the vent. If you want a completely silent fan you will be disappointed, but if you want a fan that moves air you will be delighted. The noise level is not any worse than the fan I replaced, and certainly with the water running is not that bad. With the bathroom door closed the unit cannot be heard from other rooms or areas in the house (the old fan could be heard all over the upper level). I would highly recommend this unit to anyone trying to solve a moisture problem in their bathroom. This unit works so well that I bought a multi-port unit for the master bathroom (because of the size of the master bath I needed more than one exhaust vent).

Works great! Makes as much noise as a whisper!
Bought one of these last month on Amazon for a new bathroom in my basement. With 7 foot ceilings I didn't want the noise of a traditional fan right above my head. I placed the vent hole and grate in the shower and ran 4" ducting about 12 feet to the fan, then another 5 feet to the outside of my house. The fan housing is located between the joists in an unfinished room in my basement. There is almost no noise in that room with the fan on. In the shower - you can just here the whoosh of the air rushing through the grate that's about it. Incidentally, the fan is rated for moist applications as long as it's on a gfci circuit. I would highly recommend an inline fan for any bathroom application. On a new bathroom or remodel - the hole you need to cut in your ceiling becomes a heck of a lot smaller than with a standard fan. If you're running 4" ductwork then you can find vents that are pretty small compared to a standard exhaust fan. It just looks a lot nicer. I also wouldn't hesitate to simply run this fan on the duct work above any older fan that died. I have a bathroom with an old Nutone fan from the 1950's that is on its last legs and it's a 12" circular hole with a nice chrome grate so I'm just gonna keep the housing on it and connect the inline fan up in the attic. Now my only beef - the intake/outtake flanges are spec'd out wrong and for that I delete a star. It is almost impossible to get a real good fit over them with the ductwork. Take a close look at the product photo and I think you'll see what I mean. There is only about a half inch or so on the end of the flange that will accommodate the diameter of the duct then it gets too large. To secure it - I ended up using a rubber sewer pipe coupler ( after I cut it down slightly) and worm screw clamps to secure both sides. I cut the rubber down to reduce the diameter because 4" metal duct is much smaller than 4" sewer pipe. Held it good but not great - it worked.Everything else about this fan is solid. Made well. Buy it you'll like it.

This product is junk with a once fancy name...
My how the once great panasonic has fallen. Not only on this product, but all their products... Back to this product. There is a sound that a vortex creates which sits somewhere between a whine and a whistle...they've tuned this device to create the lower whine/whistle tone that carries the farthest. If you could imagine a UFO landing on your roof, then you can imagine this sound. This is my second failed attempt at trying...the first was "Soler & Palau TD-100" which wasn't worth the time of day. Now this product which again is another failure on my behalf to find a solution for a quiet exhaust fan for the bathroom.I took this product apart and put in some sound dampening tape (it's expensive, used to stop metal from carrying sound) after installing, uninstalling...installing the dampeners, reinstalling...the sound is still there. I can only assume that the vortex resonates from the fan itself. I think there are two solutions... Like the Osprey V-22 Attack VTOL that the Marines use, I could tune the blades which creates an enormous cost to the Taxpayers and my patience as a consumer, or...I could create and mount a cone that sits in the center of the vortex and disrupt it from resonating. I believe that is the tact I'm going to take. Having already taken the stupid thing completely apart, I suspect that Panasonic says I own it.I would never ever even under extreme duress buy another one of these. I would probably buy one for Christmas and give it to someone I thoroughly hate... I am now up to 250.00 on bathroom exhaust fan purchases...just to find one that works silently and moves enough air to keep my wife from grossing out every time I use the master bedroom bathroom.

Excellent Fan and very quiet.
I recently renovated basement bathroom. Installed this fan. Overall great product. It was easy to install, well built and extremely quiet. you need to purchase air intake separately for air flow to unit. I am very pleased with the product. I have purchased same model for my other Bathroom.
