Wyeast 4184 Sweet Mead

Ironically this yeast is not that great for mead. I used it for cider and mead. The cider came out absolutely wonderful with no additives needed. However, I bought this specifically for mead and I have 2 batches of mead that are stalled even with a step feeding schedule and added nutrients. If this was branded as a cider yeast it would get 5 stars but as a mead yeast I would give it 2 stars. I have had better luck using bakers yeast that's been in my refrigerator for 2 years.

Read some really good reviews about this yeast if you want to make really good mead. The Seller was also very helpful.

Yeast arrived hot with a melted ice pack, popped it in the fridge hoping that it was ok. Went ahead and tried popping the packet and waited for it to expand for the 3 hrs, no luck, but added it to my wine mixture anyway and waited for any sign of fermentation for 3 days with nothing Ended up having to throw some cheap wine yeast into the juice so it wasnt a complete waste. I reached out to the company and they did refund my $$ so cudos to them. Just too hot and the mails to slow to order refrigerated stuff right now.

I would suggest watching a YouTube video on using this product before buying. I followed the directions it worked well, taste was good abv around 11%. I would order only during the winter months since this is a liquid and the packaging doesn’t keep it cool.

One pack worked great for 5 gallons of mead. I've used this twice now for 5 gallon batches of sweet mead. It works great, just remember to use yeast Energizer and follow the instructions

Shipping was quick. But yeast was not very effective. I split the contents between two gallon batches of mead but only one worked so I had to reyeast the second gallon. I don't know the taste results but I am hoping for the best.

Arrived hot with the icepack melted. Return option was denied. Now I'm left with something that is iffy at best using expensive materials.

Used yeast for mead making. Have purchased from seller in the past. Will buy again.
