Survived a wet camping trip - durable in the bed of my pickup truck
I don't have a camper shell for the bed of my pickup truck and I needed something that would keep camping supplies dry. A few years ago I got a bag (also available on Amazon) made by Rage Powersports. It is the 19.6 cubic ft. extra large cargo carrier bag. That particular bag is really big and very well built...but they sure have gone up in price and I wanted something that was a little less $$. Seeing the mostly positive reviews for this Highland bag and the decent price, I decided to give it a try. First, it is smaller than the Powersport bag...but you sure can put a lot of stuff in this. I had my Coleman canopy, tents, sleeping bags, and a few other things in this bag and probably could of put a few more things in. Combining this bag, with my Powersports bag, I had plenty of room to hold all of the families camping gear and keep it dry in the bed of my truck. The bag is built well. It is a heavy vinyl material that is pretty durable. From packing, riding, sliding, to pulling...this bag held up to the challenge. To tears or rips. The zipper is big and held up to me having to pack...zip...unzip...put something else in...zip....multiple times. The bag comes some straps that can be attached to help secure it to cargo carriers. I didn't need those because I kept it in the bed of the truck...but the straps look like they'd do the job that they are intended for.We had rain during our trip and the bag kept everything dry. My recommendation is to just make sure that you cover the zipper with the flap that runs around the bag. This flap has velcro on it to help keep that flap secure over the zipper. If water gets in this thing...it is because there is a hole in the vinyl or it is getting in through the zipper. This bag is smaller when compared to the gigantic 19.6 cubic ft Rage Powersports one but it held plenty for me. Both bags are a little awkward to pack because they are essentially bags that do not retain the nice square shape that you see in the picture. One difference between this bag and the Rage Powersports bag is that this one has the zipper stopping a little sooner which hinders how far you can open the top of the bag. This didn't present a problem but I did have to adjust how I put some of my larger items in. I can understand their logic in designing it like this however....less zipper mean less potential water leakage.I recommend this bag. Plenty of room, durable, and it handled the wet weather that was thrown at it. I liked the price of it and I think it will hold up well for the yearly camping trip.Update: 7/11/15This bag has been holding up very well. I have used it several times now and for the most recent trip it endured very strong rains and hail. Not a single leak inside. I've stuffed it with all kinds of camping equipment and the bag is plenty tough handle my trips into the mountains. I still highly recommend this bag!

Solid, durable, waterproof, and a value for the price
I purchased an all weather bag from a national retailer for my 1200 mile trip. It rained during the trip and my clothes and equipment were damp if not soaked near the zippers. I returned it at my destination and ordered this item. I could not be happier as this was even cheaper in price than the one I got originally. This is like a thick duffle bag with a rubberized coating surrounding it. Even the zippers have waterproof flaps that velcro down over them. It was very roomy and due to the soft walls it can flex or compress to the shape of its contents. The built in straps are strong and reinforced where they attach to the bag. I still used some bungee chords to pin it down further just to be safe for my return trip. It fits perfectly on a hitch mounted cargo carrier and secures to it well. The only areas this item could be improved are firmer walls and handles. For the price, these do not detract from rating IMHO. The flexible walls are great for odd shaped contents, but makes it difficult to start loading it till it has enough content to hold it up. Regarding handles, my trip was a two day effort and I had to unload this at the hotel. Without handles, I had to empty most the contents to haul it into the room where if it had reinforced handles it could have been carried unaltered. Again, this would only make this great product better and I would expect it to cost more if it had it.This is a 5-star product for me!

Excellent for the price
For just $24, this will definitely keep your stuff protected from road grime and most poor weather conditions. The material is thick and has some sort of rubber-like coating. It certainly appears to be waterproof but the instructions included specifically state that it is not waterproof. I’m deducting a star for the clearly misleading advertising as it claims to be “rainproof.” Okay so it’s rainproof but not waterproof? I assume this means water can get in via the zipper but I think that’s unlikely as the zipper is well-covered, the seams are taped, and velcro flaps cover it. A regular consumer is gonna purchase this item thinking it’s waterproof because the company didn’t include anything on the item page distinguishing “rainproof” from “waterproof.” They knew that claiming it was rainproof would lead people to believe it’s waterproof when apparently it isn’t.But that being said, I highly doubt water is gonna get in this bag. Plus it’s only $24 so that’s one heck of a value. The only other weird part is that the top doesn’t fully open. Imagine your typical ice chest - the lid pops up and you can drop stuff in. That’s how I figured this would work but it’s not. The zipper only goes around 50% of the top so that you have to slide your items in. See in the picture what I mean - only 2 of the corners can be lifted up instead of 3. Not that big of a deal but kind of annoying. But again, it’s $24 and that can’t be beat. Totally worth it for the value.

Works as promised, except for the muffler
Product has worked well for the last 2 trips. Have gone through rain traveled on gravel roads with not water or dust issues. The straps appear to be holding fine, no concern to need an additional tie down or strap to hold it in place. When we arrived at my parents for Thanksgiving I noticed that one of the straps had melted and the laminated fabric had de-laminated. I am not sure why this happened, it was all highway driving except for our 10 min stop at Subway for dinner which I kept the car running while my wife went into the store. I placed some gorilla duct tape on it and it held for the return trip. Going to see how long the tape lasts, but would buy another bag if I need to. I moved the bag further away from the exhaust on the return trip, but with the bag being 54" wide, not able to get it to far from the tail pipe.Update: next trip I used some old dryer vent exhaust duct that I cut apart to make a flat shield to try and deflect the exhaust, no luck. Bag is shot, had to throw away.
