the right size for me.
I love roughwear and have tried several of their portable dog bets. The larger version of this is great for my big dogs, but too bulky to carry around. The smaller, nylon dog bed was too slippery and pretty much useless. This one has been just right. The bottom is waterproof (not the top, so it still needs gentle washing). The top isn't too slippery. And the size is large enough that my big dogs can settle down in public (one per pad) without taking up too much space, while I can still roll it up and carry it to places like outdoor restaurants. We still love our bigger MB pads - but be aware they are quite bulky to carry around.

LATEX ALLERGY WARNING
PRODUCT CAUSED AN ALLERGIC REACTION (see bottom of review)I got two of these at Christmas, both sizes, the medium and large. The large fits most of my service dog (5' long, sometimes 6' depending on how she configures herself) comfortably stretched out diagonally, but sadly is not very portable because of its size, weight, and the fact that there aren't a lot of 4' x 3' spots to put it in. It will be great when we car camp though. It lashes onto a backpack nicely (just ran the strap through a compression strap on the pack to attach) but is heavy and obtrusive looking (it sort of thumped as I walked which didn't help my balance any). BE AWARE THAT THE TINY ROLLED UP COMPACT VERSION OF THE PAD THAT THE MAN IS CAUSALLY STROLLING ALONG WITH IN THE PICTURE IS THE MEDIUM, NOT THE LARGE. The medium, in contrast, felt quite comfortable and light lashed onto my backpack and I strolled along comfortably. The medium fits my dog's front legs and belly (or her entire middle if she drapes off at both ends) these are the parts that have the most contact with the ground usually, so this is great. It could theoretically contain her entire body if she curled up. She seemed quite pleased lying on it. I think she was quite comfortable and unbothered that it's half the size she actually needs.I bought this medium size one (actually from the ruffwear site so they may say I'm not a verufied purchaser) primarily to use as her place mat at restaurants so that later when we're snuggling in bed I'm not snuggling with the residue from the floor of wherever we ate, which had happened before and is gross. The pad is 100% perfect for this. The rubbery bottom kept it stiff unlike the towel we had been using so the floor side stayed on the floor and it didn't bunch up and the dog side (and therefore the dog) stayed uncontaminated by the floor. (I imagine the reverse is true too, if you put the large version of this in the back of a tent/SUVand then a very muddy dog lay on it it would help keep the back of the tent/SUV somewhat cleaner than it would be otherwise, although who are we kidding the dog will still manage to get mud and grit EVERYWHERE. (Also see my comments below about washability). The 2' x 3' size DID fit nicely by our table, although her entire butt and tail still extended way out of our area (alas, she's LARGE). After eating, I took it outside and rubbed down the rubbery bottom with some Seventh Generation disinfecting wipes and dried with a paper towel and then it was clean again and I rolled it up and off we went, forgetting it (the medium) was attached to my pack, it was so unobtrusive.I checked and it does seem possible to roll it for transport with the top side out on occasions when I forget the disinfecting wipes so the dirty floor side doesn't touch my bag or hands or car until I can clean it. I might actually feel comfortable using this on the subway, knowing how easy the bottom is to disinfect. The little built in pocket keeps the strap from getting soiled by the ground and is impossible to see so it would be a great place to secretly store car keys at the beach.I was a little disappointed that it doesn't seem QUITE as washable as I had hoped and the product info suggested. I'm afraid to try. The rubbery side is stiff and so it seems like it would be difficult to put in the top loader. Or a front loader. Maybe the giant machine at a laundry mat would be okay, I have doubts. I feel like the top loader will MAYBE work with the medium but I am reluctant to try. I'm afraid the water won't spin out well. I'll report back once I try it, but not until I absolutely HAVE TO. Hanging it dry doesn't seem ideal. I could see that being okay in winter but it's thick enough that in summer here it when it's HUMID I'd worry it'd mildew before it dried. Since the plan is to use it to camp (especially the large), this concerns me some. Sometimes you NEED to be able to dry a thing like this in a dryer to kill bacteria and mold.A lot of people have complained about the amount of padding. It's not super padded like a pillow or a bed bed, but IT HAS MUCH BETTER PADDING THAN THE EMACIATED PAD THAT THEY SELL TO GO WITH THEIR SLEEPING BAG SYSTEM (which is meant for backpacking and is much lighter, so that's fair). It's enough to give her some cushioning and protection from rocks and stuff and protection from damp. It seems like it would insulate well too, so the ground doesn't make her cold in the spring/fall if we sit outside. I wouldn't be able to sleep on it, but I think they made good tradeoffs between portability and comfort.Except for the allergy issue below and my concerns about washability, this is a great product and I am very pleased with it.My biggest issue with the pad, and this is WARNING for folks with LATEX/ PLASTIC allergies: I accidently touched the rubbery part of the pad to my face last night and had an allergic reaction that I had to aggressively treat with benadryl and zyrtec and Pepsid and when those didn't work and my throat felt tight, an EPIPEN, which (the reaction) was quite dangerous and could have led to the emergency room and/or death if the allergy had been a bit stronger or I hadn't had the meds. This morning I feel gross and hung over from the meds. There was no allergy warning on the product which is shocking and dangerous. This also explains the bad allergies I've been having at night since I got them since they are stored in my bedroom. It's better than some products (I bought a portable Aerobed once that made me so ill I couldn't be in the same space with it when it was still in the box bagged in several trash bags, although that product had a barbie-legs smell that this product didn't have, so I thought this was okay, until it wasn't). This I seem to be able to touch with my hands just not my face (which is still itching). I like it enough I want to keep it anyway and just be careful not to do that, although I'll be checking with my allergist on that.

Can’t go wrong.
It’s super resistant, I have a Bull Terrier and he goes through every bed, not this one. And it has the portable feature that makes it more useful.

Not Very “Ruff”
This product does not live up to the quality of other Ruffwear products. We’ve taken this camping and the top suede material is very difficult to clean and easily rips and tears exposing what very little padding is enclosed in this bed. I would not recommend this product. Save your money!
