A: yuca and cassava are the same, but yuca and yucca are two different plants.

**Q: Is this suitable to grow in a garden?  Most in stores is covered with wax and you can't**
A: Yuca or Mandioca is good for garden but need a lot of good mountain soil. Ideally you would cut a 3-5 inch peace of the stem with 3 or 4 eyes on them about five inches deep plant in early spring and enjoy in late summer, each plant has 5-8 roots depending on soil. Make sure you peel them and do not leave any of the pink skin on it as it is poison. They are wonderful and good boiled with some gravy and meat, boiled and then cut and fried like potatoes, or boiled and deep fried in small wedges is the best. Unfortunately in CA they do not grow as the weather is not humid enough and the soil is to sandy.
In many parts of South America people would starve if it was not for Yuca. By the time they come to the US they are dried out and on the verge of being spoiled. Brake the small tip off and look for black fiber, it should be pure white and milky.
