Nesco 4842-47 Professional Roast Air Roaster Oven with Convection, 12-Quart

There is no other roaster better than this one. Just did an 11 pound young turkey and it was incredible. Didn't need the fan for convection as we never have. Turkey came out soooo juicy, incredibly tasty, browned and wonderful. And, I cooked it outside, on my portch so I didn't have to heat up my house! If you like juicy meats or whatever, then this is a product for you. The largest size Nesco is most incredible for the 20 pound or greater birds. I use mine for Thanksgiving. We love turduckens. Take a small prepared chicken, stuff it with a prepared duck, and stuff them both in the turkey. When I say "stuff", I mean totally cleaned, guts out, and lightly salted before you stuff. Stick a thermometer in the fatest part of the chicken, roast in the nesco at 425 degrees on the over initially set at 400 degrees for one hour. after one hour, reduce the temp to 350. When the themo reads 170 from the chicken, take the whole thing out, keep it coverved in foil for at least 30 minutes. Then, enjoy the most incredible meal ever.

I have a 6 quart and a 8 quart Nesco and I still wanted something bigger for a bigger piece of meat. Well, I have to say, this will do perfectly! This is one huge roaster that can cook a small turkey or ham easily for my husband and I. I have cooking in it right now a big roaster chicken and it fits in well. I tried my 8 quart and the bird would not fit in. The reason for only four stars is what someone else stated and that is the handle on this. It is the worse design I have seen. To lift it with your hand in front and raise the lid to the back, you can get hot steam all over your wrist. I am raising it with my arm at the side which is awkward but at least I am not getting a hot wrist. Nesco needs to re design this handle on this lid. It still lifts off like the other styles and you avoid this steam completely, but then there is no purpose for the hinged feature. Then with lifting it off, the handle design is still awkward. Nesco, make a modification on this! UPDATE - Just went to turn off the roaster and used the handle to lift off vs lift back...lid teetered and hit my wrist and now I have a red bloch on my wrist. Nesco, you gotta do something here....

We love cooking with roaster ovens and wished we could find a smaller unit for the two of us for smaller meals. Wow! I looked on my favorite shopping site (Amazon) and there I found the perfect solution. We use this oven more than the larger set because it is perfect and easy to clean. This unit is more versatile than the larger units because most meals do not need to be cooked in the 18 to 20 quart units. If you have this oven you will use it more often and realize that roaster ovens are superior to regular ovens for tenderness. Try it and you will become a believer..

I am very disappointed in this roaster oven. I have always loved the Nesco products and had good luck with them, but this item I wish I could return for a refund. The cookwell is cheaply made and thin with edges that are sharp. The lid is flimsy with metal bits that are supposed to hook into the cook well so you can lift the lid, like you would on a grill, while working with your contents. These metal bits have damaged the coating on the cookwell after only 3 uses. As I just said, we have used the roaster about 3 times since it was purchased - the coating on the cookwell is already damaged. We have cooked a couple of roasts and a small turkey in it and the coating around the TOP EDGE looks like it has started to erode away apparently by STEAM............ It is supposed t be non-stick, which in general it is, but washing it leaves a white residue where the liquid/grease level was in the cookwell and it is almost impossible to get it clean.

Great size. Also love the Nesco brand, have several others in different sizes.

I really liked this roaster, and they way it can handle different functions. The size is great as well. One very bad thing I encountered with mine though was rust! It is either the shaft from the fan motor or the fan motor internals itself is causing rust to run down the shaft and into the pan. It has gotten worse and very diffficult to clean. I am wondering if I just got a lemon as I see no one else has reported this issue. I am going to try and clean it again and see if it stops, if not I will have to try another roaster. There is no way I can deal with rust in my food. If it wasn't for that this would be 5 stars easily.

This 12 qt. Nesco is very handy, great for doing several chickens at one time. I've done smaller turkeys and large batches of chilli and stew, everything I've cooked so far has turned out fantastic. It cooks a lot hotter and faster than a crock pot. If I had to do over probably wouldn't have invested in the convection type though. It has to be removed for cleaning and limits the height of whatever you're trying to cook due to the fan secured on the inside of the lid. I've had mine for 7 mths now and have used it numerous times. I'm extremely happy with the product.

This was a replacement for a defective unit I first received. I have used the new unit and it has performed very well with no issues whatsoever. I think it was a great purchase and am very pleased with the results.
