Review: Let there be light - I already own several Makita cordless tools, therefore I have the batteries that fit this item. So there was no additional expense for a battery (as this item is "tool only"). I bought this light mainly as a trouble light when I'm working on my car and as a general flashlight. But then I realized with the 90 degree movable head, it might be a great light source during power outages. Sure enough the flood mode lit up my living room (approx 140 sq ft) very well when I sat it down on the coffee table and pointed the light at the ceiling. Obviously not as good as electric lights, but you could easily read a book with it on, if you wanted. The spot mode works great as a flashlight, better than any of the flashlights I already own. It has a metal hanger you can fold out, so you could suspend it with the supplied strap from a hook if you wished. But, it doesn't come cheap. I paid about $80 and I've seen it at closer to $90. Remember that's without the battery. If you don't own other Makita 18v cordless tools, you will want to pass on this. For those who are a part of the Makita "ecosystem"... According to the manual: A 4.0Ah battery (BL1840B) will get you 6.5 hrs on spot mode, 5.0 hrs on flood mode and 4.0 hrs flood/spot combo. A 5.0Ah battery (BL1850B) will get you 8.5 hrs on spot mode, 6.5 hrs on flood mode and 5.0 hrs flood/spot combo. The product itself gets 5 stars, it does what it says it does. The build quality of this light is as good as the other the Makita tools I own. Review: Buy one and done. Expensive, but portable and powerful. - If you're already in the Makita family of batteries and are looking for a "buy one and done" type of light, this is it. It's super powerful and has a few modes depending on whether you want a spotlight or to light up the entire room. Lightweight, portable, and durable overall... but I am a bit concerned about the strength of the plastic lens itself (just have to be careful when throwing it in your work bag). It's expensive, but works so well you can justify having it as part of your Makita set. With the new 18V batteries it lasts over 6+ hours being constantly on... more than enough to take on weekend trip, job site, or to have at home without worrying about it going out during a DIY project. ## Features - 4-mode operation: delivering 600 lumens on Spot, 1,000 lumens on Flood, 1,250 lumens on Spot/Flood, and Strobe mode - Illuminates up to 700 yards in Spot and Spot/Flood mode - Up to 7 hours of continuous illumination in Spot mode with 5.0Ah 18V LXT battery (battery not included) - 90º pivoting head for user convenience - Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) is engineered for improved dust and water resistance for operation in harsh conditions ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B085VTRG7L | | Additional Features | Durable | | Battery Description | Lithium-Ion | | Battery Type | Lithium Ion | | Beam Angle | 90 degrees | | Best Sellers Rank | #104,936 in Tools & Home Improvement ( See Top 100 in Tools & Home Improvement ) #1,231 in Handheld Flashlights | | Brand Name | Makita | | Bulb Base | Flanged | | Color | Teal | | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 1,907 Reviews | | Finish Types | Powder Coated | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00088381896245 | | Included Components | Flashlight / Spotlight Strap Hook Set (GM00002239) | | Item Dimensions D x W x H | 4.72"D x 4.72"W x 11.02"H | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 12"L x 28"W x 12"H | | Item Type Name | Makita DML812 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Cordless L.E.D. Sometimes I may need to set a light on a table and cast the beam slightly downward.** A: The head only goes flat to strait up but on flood if u put it on the edge of the table it will cast light on the floor about 3’ away it is super bright I use it on a ranch in the dark and on the spot light it shines super far **Q: with 5.0 AH how long it last?** A: It varies considerably. This light is so bright. It's not usually left on very long. If you're con hunting and you have it on bright. You'll probably get 90 min to 2 hours. It has a lower brightness you'll get 3-4 hrs. I love the light so much. I bought a second one. **Q: Where do we get the battery and charger-please give specifications to order properly, & how much are they?** A: You will need a Makita LXT 18 volt battery and charger. You can buy them on Amazon or a Home Center. I use a 3 amp/ hr battery on mine and it feels balanced and last quite a while depending on what you are cutting. **Q: Does it have a blinker mode.?** A: Yes, there is a rapid blinker mode. It's accessed by holding down the mode button for a few seconds. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Let there be light *by J***B on July 7, 2022* I already own several Makita cordless tools, therefore I have the batteries that fit this item. The visibility you get out of this in the dark is great. It’s like a truck 4 led cube light. About 1000 lumens if I head to guess. I’ve used on the lake at night when salvaging a house boat. I used 2 batteries that night. Battery life is pretty good I would say a 4 amp last about 4.5 to 5 hours. I would say it about an amp an hour. Seems to be durable. I’ve dropped it in the water and used it in the water with no issues. The only thing is it is very top heavy. And that the adjustment is slightly annoying it never wants to snap where you need it but I use it for a hand held device so no big deal. Hope this helps! ## Frequently Bought Together - Makita DML812 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Cordless L.E.D. Flashlight/Spotlight, Light Only - Makita DML801 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 12 L.E.D.
