ronseal decking stain dark oak
Bought 9no 2.5 tins: I have a large area of decking. The stain was spread in an electric sprayer: I found the 2.5L did not cover the expected area even using the sprayer. The colour was darker than expected as I use Ronseal dark oak fence stain, which is a far lighter colour. I found I had to spend time covering the fence over spray with more dark oak decking stain. Because the weather has been kind I am unable to say how durable the decking stain is, and how it will stand up to storms and snow later in the Winter. Overall it looks OK. Billy In Essex

Preparation Is The Key
Preparation is paramount.A bit of time sanding and cleaning saves a lot of time moaning and wasting time.My previous sealer wasn’t water based so it’s important to get that sorted, otherwise it won’t penetrate as well.Had a a few compliments this time around. Well pleased.

Not as durable as I would like
Not a lot of choice on the market for deck stain but this is as good as most. Not very durable if you use a jet washer to clean your deck as this wears the stain away. Needs to be reapplied at least once a year. Doesn’t seem to actually stain the wood to any depth. Also quite expensive but due to limited choice will stick with it until something better comes on the market.

Didn,t do what it says on the tin
Used this product for my decking first some three or four years ago. found colour that came out did not match colour illustrated on tins. Unfortunately once one coat was down there is little alternative to re-use same product the next time decking needs new coat , but would not use this product for any new area.

Mix it constantly or its poor.
Colour settles in use which is hard to see as it also changes colour as it dries, Ronseal offered to supply a replacement but haven't followed through. 3 months down some of its already flaking.

No staying power
It took a good while to prepare. Easy to apply but less than a year later its wearing off.

Decking stain/preservative
This will have to be renewed annually, but it seems to be holding up even though it has rained constantly since it dried. I have not been able to apply a second coat due to the weather.
