Great read!
Loved it! This is the story of mage who thinks she’s fighting evil, but then finds out she’s been lied to, and she’s actually been acting on the side of evil. So what does she do? She walks away, destroying most of that evil organization, and hopes to make a normal life for herself. Unfortunately, trouble follows her…..Erin is a great character. Well drawn, realistic in her angst over her history. Mature in her acceptance that while it was terrible, it ultimately wasn’t her fault. She wasn’t evil, even if her past actions were show to be so, in that amazing 20/20 past vision.Supporting characters are great too - unique, some good, some jerks, all real. You can so easily envision yourself in this story, and loving the great friends Erin finds at Rosie’s.Definitely looking forward to the next book!

A nice start.
Shadow Hunter is book one in the Rosie O'Grady's Paranormal Bar and Grill by B.R. Kingsolver. This is my first taste of Kingsolver.I saw this book on Caffeinated Reviews, so I decided to take a closer look. The cover, blurb, and series title, Rosie O'Grady's Paranormal Bar and Grill, peeked my interest in this Urban Fantasy series and I saw that it's on KindleUnlimited, so I decided to give it a try. I have to say I wasn’t disappointed.Erin, our heroine, is a young women who was sold to the Illuminati when her powers manifested. She was trained by them to be an assassin and has learned that not everything in the Illuminati world is as it seems; good vs evil, light and dark, black and white. And, she decides to leave the order, but no one gets out of the order alive. The story isn’t perfect as with most first books in a series, but it moves along nicely with a mix of snark, humor, and building of friendships. Erin is a smart, athletic, and a tough heroine, but she lacks in some areas and you’d think she wouldn’t. One area that got to me was her social experiences. It just did fit and it clashed with what I expected a highly trained assassin would know. There is also a possible love interest, but Erin is focussed on getting her feet under her and finding out who she is now that she’s no longer an assassin. The suspense and murder mystery keep us on our toes and the world-building is straightforward. The secondary characters are an interesting bunch and I look forward to seeing more of them.Shadow Hunter has potential and was a decedent start to the Rosie O'Grady's Paranormal Bar and Grill series. I’m curious to see how/if things will develop a little better and how Erin grows. It’s got some cool bones and fascinating possibilities.Rated: 3.5 Stars

A Refreshing Surprise
I started this book with an open mind and was hooked by the end of the first chapter. The characters are engaging and the action keeps the momentum of the storyline going. Good Read.

Enjoyable urban fantasy
A bit of romantic triangulation in this one, no explicit scenes. The characters are well developed, there's a bit of info dumping early on to get readers up to speed, but somehow you have to figure out what's going on so it was acceptable. I received my copy in a giveaway and enjoyed this one enough that I'll invest in the followup books in the series. Lots of action/adventure. Strong heroine. Elements of politics (fae) and intrigue.

Ummmm...
I really am finding it hard to review this book. I found myself confused and just skipped the review here and read the second book. The world building is strange to me. Its supposed to be based in our modern times within an "american" society but yet it doesn't feel like that. Its not in a bad way though. I actually like the twist on the supernatural and paranormal world. Its new and interesting. But its also a little confusing. Its like there is no actual in depth explanation of the main females powers and exactly what the extent of her powers are. But I think that could be due to how the story flows. There is no flow and I think that is the main issue I have with this series. The story is choppy. It goes from 1 scene to the next. In a hard manner. Its not smooth. Kind of like talking to a robot who just lists facts. But the story and plot are intriguing enough to keep me interested. The main female has an intriguing story and is a bad ass. I love that. Shes not a weak woman but due to her upbringing you can see where she is naive with certain things in life but yet old and wise with others. She is quirky, snarky, and has a sense of humor. She's also loyal to a fault. I cant remember being given an adequate description of what she looks like besides having black hair. That made it kind of hard to relate to her in a way but also opened doors to relate more to her personal characteristics. Maybe that's what the author was aiming for? 1 thing that stuck out to me though is we are told that she was raised by this all powerful illuminati. She is half witch and they trained her to be the best assassin they had due to her powers. Trained her from everything of how to kill in anyway to the art of seduction but yet she was never trained on how to use her witch abilities. Thats not believable. The author slipped on that. Plus that type of lifestyle where survival is first and foremost would make a person strive to master all aspects of anything that could help her survive but yet her learning about her witch side from the witches in her new life is barely touched upon. Unbelievable especially when she knows this illuminati will hunt her down. The romance is just not there. So if your looking for a romance this is not the book series for you unless your patient. I just finished book 2 and she barely even dates. But I don't need romance to like the supernatural even though its always a plus. *wink wink* All in all I will continue the series because I want to know how Erin's story ends and because its interesting. I can get past the lack of flow and the little discrepancies of what I believe an assassin and survivor would think like. After all I'm immersing myself in BR Kingsolver's fantacy world as a guest and I strongly believe and support the differences in how all of us think. In our individuality. Different is good. So if you like the supernatural, a bad ass female with a strong moral code, action, and something a little different give this series a try. Book 2 was better than book 1 IMO. Im heading to book 3 now.

I like Erin
I starts of a bit absurd, but gets better with every page. So, yes, I will read the rest of the series. So many unexplained things to solve. Thanks.

Noioso
Sono sinceramente stupita dei commenti positivi su questo libro. È piatto....un esercizio di scrittura ma privo di emozioni, lho trovato veramente noioso.

A great first read.
Erin is a young woman living in a world of magical and supernatural beings. When Erin but puberty at fourteen her magic manifested in a giant burst, unable to control it her parents searched for someone who could help. Enter the Illuminati a mysterious group who tested Erins skills and then purchased her from her parents. The same day she left with them and has never seen her family since. Trained in the use of martial arts and how to use her magic Erin rose to become the Illuminati's best assassin and believed she was working for the powers of good. After killing over two hundred targets Erin is devastated to discover the Illuminati are actually an organisation devoted to evil. Erin is left reeling by this knowledge a d runs away determined to get as far from the organisation as she can and somehow redeem her life. She ends up getting a job at Rosie O'Gradys bar and grill after stumbling across the place one night. Rosies is a place for supernaturals to hang out enjoy a drink some good food and good company. Erin has spent the last third of her life living by rigid rules and structures, all her decisions made for her, she doesn't know how to cook food or even clean her own clothes and the only social interaction she has had since leaving her family is pretending to get close to one of her victims. But she's determined to learn and wants nothing more than to be an ordinary bartender. Pity others are just as determined to involve her in their murderous conspiracies. A fine start to a new series Erin is a fascinating character so knowledgeable about magic and murder but clueless when it comes to friendship and ordinary life. She's a fascinating character.

Well worth reading!
Interesting story line, the characters are showing some depth, and the heroine of the story is strong enough to be worthy of the title, but flawed enough to be believable without being silly. If paranormal crime fighting is your thing, then don’t go past the Rosie O’Gradys series.
