Packaging was fine, nicely padded and the box the ball came in showed no sign of the journey from the US. I got the K2 GST (pee wee) as I wanted a real leather ball that I can eventually give to my daughter. When I took the ball out of the box I was extremely pleased to see that every inch is perfect and there is no overbite at the ends of the ball. The ball is the perfect size for kids and is recommended for 6-9 year olds. I'm over-40 and I can't wait to have a throw myself! The leather is nice and tacky even without wearing in. My experience with leather footballs is that when the leather gets wet the tackiness increases and I expect this ball to do the same. The sewn-in stripes are noticably more grippy than painted stripes. I don't know how grippy they will be when it gets wet given the stripes are composite. Either way, the stripes are neatly stitched in and running your finger over there is no raised 'bump' where the leather and composite meet. The laces are all neat and tight and really help grip the ball. Cosmetically, the position and orientation of all the stamping is spot on. I have not had a chance to take the ball out for a throw so I can't comment as to how easy it is to get a tight spiral out of. Given the obvious quality of the build and attention to detail I don't envision having a problem. I've attached photos of the ball in and out of its box. There is a "micro" football and a full-sized ball in a couple of the shots for size comparison. My 18mo daughter loves playing with the soft micro right now. Maybe in a few years we can play catch with this ball...I'm sure it will still be going strong. I would recommend this ball at the drop of a hat. I think that means the 1003 is just slightly smaller but still within the specs of a collegiate ball. Both are approved for NCAA and NFHS use. I'm guessing the 1003 is used more in high school ball. This is a great little ball for the kids (young and old) to use. The stripes really help smaller hands getting a good grip on the ball to throw a spiral. Beware when playing catch with younger kids that the ends of the ball are very hard and unforgiving. The only thing I take issue with is the slight "overbite" the ball has at one end (see photo). It's really very minor and does not cause any problems. The truth is that with Wilson leather footballs in general you would need to inspect a selection of 5-6 balls to find the perfect specimen - something that is not possible with online stores. Overall I am very happy with this ball. Update 9 June 2015 - Just received the junior size of this ball from Amazon. This ball is absolutley perfect, right down to the last stitch.
