Second, I wanted a case where a) the zipper didn't come into contact with the laptop (potentially scratching it) and where the "edges" and "corners" of the laptop had some protection. This case hit the mark for both of these requirements. It's hard to describe but there's a small band of foam or some kind of material that goes all around the case--it not only keeps the zipper away but it (hopefully) provides a bit of extra protection in the event of a bump on the edge--something that most sleeve cases lack. The lining of the case is a VERY soft "fur" kind of material - and the sides also seem to have some of the same shock-absorbing foam behind the soft lining. The outside is covered with a substantial cloth or cordura type of material.
